One of the great solemnities in the Christian liturgical calendar and commemorates the bodily ascension of Jesus into heaven. Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day of Easter. However, it is now often observed on the following Sunday.
One teaching point for this occasion is that, rather than focussing upon Jesus leaving us, each of us is now responsible to build up His presence in this world.
