Why Choose Learning Tree?

Learning Tree offers a high quality Christian education to students of all faiths from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. High quality Christian education is precisely what students in Dalton need. In this Wall Street Journal report, Dalton was ranked number two in the nation for having the least educated population.

Learning Tree offers optimum learning opportunities because of its advantage of multi-grade classrooms and low teacher-to-student ratio. The small class sizes provide individualized attention that helps create a caring family atmosphere where our students gain a sense of community. Learning Tree’s environment nurtures and encourages cooperation and collaboration among students, parents, teachers, and administration as we all work together to grow our students to be more and more like Jesus.

The Benefits of Adventist Education

Around the world, in more than 6,700 schools and through the inspired efforts of more than 65,600 Adventist teachers, over 1.5 million young lives experience spiritual transformation.  It happens in morning worships, in earnest prayers, in community service projects and mission adventures. In so many little ways each day, our children find God and a future on their journey to excellence.  Adventist Schools are a priceless investment in eternity.

Spiritually, the testimonies and lives of teachers, students and families speak volumes.

We have an "Edge"

We are an Adventist Edge School, which means we are a part a comprehensive improvement of Adventist education, from Early Childhood through grade 12 and sets the course for excellence in all areas.

The Southern Union Office of Education supports approximately 300 educational facilities across the Southern Union–childcare centers, pre-kindergarten thru grade 12 schools, and 3 universities–which employ over 1000 educators who together educate more than 17,000 students annually. The department was founded on the divine imperative that “all our children should be taught of the Lord,” Isaiah 54:13.

The Education Department has implemented a school improvement initiative, Adventist EDGE, which promotes excellence in all Southern Union schools. This initiative is aligned with the North American Division’s Journey to Excellence.

Spiritual Foundation

Key to Adventist EDGE classrooms is the pervasive element of genuine Christianity. The curriculum is infused with Christian values and students receive daily encouragement in their personal walk with Jesus. EDGE students exemplify concern for others by participating in community out-reach projects and other faith building activities.

The EDGE teacher seeks to instill in each student a sense of their value as a child of God and inspire them to treat others with respect. Spirituality is not limited to the teaching of Bible, but integrated into the entire curriculum.

Building on a strong spiritual foundation, Southern Union educators will guide students to:

Mission

To deliver GREAT education that is:

Vision

Every student a success.

The BLUEPRINT is a collection of short features about students and teachers who form an extraordinary network of schools operated by Seventh-day Adventists. From the streets of the Bronx, New York, to an Indian reservation in Arizona – from a riverboat that a century ago dared to teach newly-freed slaves to a modern day oudoor classroom in the Rocky Mountains – each story shows how the “whole child” approach to education – teaching body, mind and spirit – is transforming lives.

Curriculum & Standards

At Learning Tree, we use a variety of techniques to reach all learning styles.   The North American Division curriculum guides outline skills and concepts to be taught and evaluated to enhance student achievement.

Encounter Bible Curriculum

The primary purpose of the Adventist Encounter Curriculum is for all students at every grade level to have a personal, deep, abiding relationship with God and to respond to His invitation to live out of the overflow of this relationship — to understand the truths of the Bible, to respond to Christ’s invitation to live in a lifelong vibrant relationship with Him, and be passionate about the salvation of others.  Our only textbook is the Bible.

By Design Science

ByDesign is the new faith-based inquiry science program for 1st-8th grades. ByDesign is built on a foundation of inquiry that encourages wonderment, questioning, collaboration, and exploration of multiple resources to conduct research and investigations.

Pathways Literacy Program

Pathways is a faith-based integrated literacy program that includes:

Restoring the image of God within each student is the ultimate goal of Seventh-day Adventist education, including its language arts program. Pathways: A Journey to Excellence through Literacy is based on a balanced approach focusing on individual student needs combined with effective practices. Current research in theories and principles of language arts (reading, writing, handwriting, and spelling) form the basis for these effective practices.

Music, Drama & Art

As participants in the music program, students are introduced to a variety of musical experiences.

Art helps us understand that talents and gifts are from God. In art students learn to appreciate the value of art in society and culture, understand the basic elements of art such as line, shape, texture, and color, and understand basic design principles of rhythm, movement, and balance.

Lightning Sports

The Learning Tree “Lightning” athletic program provides students opportunities to develop physical and mental skills. It began as a single boys’ basketball team consisting of players from Learning Tree and Coble Adventist Schools. This team participated in a yearly tournament formally known as the Spalding Tournament in Collegedale, Tennessee and a second tournament in the Atlanta area.

Increased interest resulted in Learning Tree and Coble forming individual boys’ basketball teams in their second year. Today the program has expanded to where it offers boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball, co-ed junior varsity basketball, girls' volleyball, and co-ed varsity soccer. The unique aspect of Learning Tree athletics is that all students interested in participating, beginning in grade 3, become members of their respective teams.

The teams are members of the Christian Fellowship Athletic Association. This eight-team league stresses the importance of Christian teamwork and sportsmanship as its number one priority.

Learning Tree is most proud to have won the Good Sportsmanship Award for their team for several years.
