Today we traveled down to the wilds of Cobham for a day of paintballing. Having climbed into their fatigues and grabbed their helmet and guns the pupils (along with brave teachers Mr Gibson and Mr Ashby who joined in) were given the all-important safety briefing before embarking upon a series of games in which they had to capture the all-important flags without being shot. Highlight of the day, as always, was the world-famous ‘paintball burger’. Not to be underestimated. Despite the rain, the pupils always come back from this day tired but happy.
A very different day today as we travelled up to Milton Keynes to Xscape Snozone. After a tour of the shops we had two hours skiing on the snow slope, whilst twelve beginners had a lesson. After the group made use of the many eating establishments it was up to the tenpin bowling, where everyone had a game. Most importantly, Mr Goldsmith won the staff competition. He’s far too modest of course to mention this!
A completely different day today as we went to John Battleday watersports centre near Thorpe Park for a day of fun like no other. We started in the morning with a lesson in kneeboarding before the pupils, along with Mr Gibson and Mr Ashby, went on the pulley rope around the lake. Some more experienced pupils swapped to a board towards the end. After lunch it was time for a mixture of a massive aqua park and being pulled around the lake holding onto a doughnut pulled by a speedboat. They’ll sleep well tonight!
The sun may not have been shining but the sight of the beautiful Queen Mary’s Reservoir rising above the A308 still warmed our hearts as we parked the coach and walked up the stairs to a day of sailing, paddleboarding and kayaking. The morning started with a sailing lesson and then some races, followed by paddle-boarding races and finally the group went out kayaking. It’s a day full of variety out on the water. Can you really ask for more?
Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Nigel Mansell….will not have been concerned watching our go-kart driving. But it was competitive all the same. After everyone had a few practice laps it was qualifying, with Mr Lewis managing to set the fastest lap time, just. However, the staff team of Mr Lewis and Mr Ashby got a mini-suspension for dangerous driving on a yellow flag, meaning a team containing Gabriel and Oscar and Mr Gibson took an early lead and held onto it during the 90 minute endurance race. Congratulations also to Cameron for winning fastest lap out of everyone. Last word goes to the racetrack manager who said they get loads of groups and our group were the best they have had for a while. Us teachers agree, and think the pupils were great too!
