After a very early start we made it to the historic Spanish town of Ávila, known for its stunning medieval walls and cathedral, for lunch. The students immediately found themselves loving the local cuisine! After a long day we then arrived at the activities centre, where after a treasure hunt we found plenty of time to unwind in the evening sun.
Awaking to our first full day in Gredos we felt ready and recharged, going straight into a map reading lesson (in Spanish!) and then using our newfound orienteering skills to navigate the stunning Gredos countryside. We then enjoyed a refreshing picnic before getting to grips with an adventurous zip wire course in the forest.
Our action packed schedule continued into Monday as we started off with an archery contest in the morning. The students couldn't wait to get out and about as they went horse riding AND mountain biking through the stunning mountains, forests and rivers of Sierra de Gredos. In the evening after a long active day we enjoyed a session of T-Shirt painting and then a cookery class from a Spanish chef where we made Tortilla! Over dinner we reflected on a day in the great outdoors whilst having a lot of creative fun!
After waking to a beautiful morning surrounded by birdsong we set off for some more horseback riding, where we rode through the forests and crystal clear rivers.
After a lovely walk through the forest we enjoyed a delicious picnic by the river!
We had a final meal at the parador before heading home- croquetas, local cheese and paella followed by a delicious chocolate cake for raspberry sorbet for pudding.
We also celebrated Andrew and Catherine's birthdays!
