This is the STEM Tank project that was completed in our class. Have you ever watched the show Shark Tank? If so, this project was very similar to what goes down on that nail biting show. Students were assigned to create a game and research how much it would cost to patent the game. Once the game and patents were completed the students would have to create a marketing strategy to try to convince a shark to invest in their game. The sharks were senior STEM students chosen at random by the teacher and it would be their decision if the game gets the investment or not.
When it came to creating a game our group decided to go with something we created as kids. The game was called Bag Ball. Bag Ball began back in 2014 after we were bored and decided to hold a competition to see who could throw a plastic bag the highest. After throwing the bag up only a few feet, we discovered that putting a ball in the bag would result in the bag soaring into the sky. The idea clicked in our heads and Bag Ball was born. The game consists of putting a rubber ball inside a plastic bag and throwing it in the air. When the bag is in the air the ball will fall out and the bag will go flying. The point of the game is to try to catch the bag and ball but you get points for catching either.
One of the requirements was to make a package that would not take a lot of shelf space up. In the real world, manufactures don't want big packages because the more product they can get on the shelves the more they can sell at a time. We made sure that we had our company's name represented on each side of the package so no matter the direction it was placed on the shelf, the customer would always know it's bag ball. We also chose yellow and black as our two main colors because they are very vibrant and easy to spot out amongst the other lame games.
Unfortunately the sharks did not invest in our game. The point where our group had a lot of issues was the environmental aspects of the game. The sharks were concerned that we were promoting littering of plastic bags. It was a stand point in which our game had not really took into great depth but now we know for next time to make sure to include environmental effects that minor things can have on the environment.
