In this step of the design process, the materials, dimensions, design, and sketch should be completely finished. This is where every material is gathered and the construction of a prototype begins. Having a model allows designers to see what can be improved on another model. Make sure that when the prototype is being built, that the dimensions and pieces are all matching with the sketches from the previous designing step.
The first thing that had to be done was to create the base of the car. Balsa wood and hot glue was just used for this step in order to properly attach everything in an organized manner.
Next up, I had to connect the pool cue and the shoe lace. The pool cue acts like an arm for the mouse trap car and spins the string when it is later connected to the marshmallow sticks.
Finally, I had to connect the tires or CDs in this scenario. What I did was I first connected cut up pens so it would fit in the balsa wood. I had to drill a hole small enough for the pen to snugly fit through. Once the pen was in, I put a little bit of hot glue to ensure that it stayed. Next, I had to make sure that the marshmallow sticks wouldn't slide though so I cut a 1" x 1" square to solve that issue. With that, I slid on the tires and hot glued them to the marshmallow stick. For the front tires, I made the tires spin instead of the marshmallow stick so, I placed more 1" x 1" squares so the tire was straightened.
