In the design process, brainstorming is a key step to ensure the best idea is isolated and picked out. This step comes right after the research step because the research is used to locate the right properties of an idea. In this step, ideas are created to find out what fits best. It is important that every idea isn't just thrown away, try to tie in the ideas together. The creator should be thinking about his final design at this point.
After my research was done, I began to brainstorm different ideas for my Kinematic racer. I then thought about some perks that would assist my racer to go farther and faster. I knew that the lighter the racer the faster and farther it would go so I then chose the following materials: pen, marshmallow sticks, shoe lace, pool cue, CDs, balsa wood, mouse trap, duct tape, and hot glue. The reasons for choosing these materials are straight forward. I chose the pen because once it was cut, it would be hollow and I could put the marshmallow stick through to make it spin. The marshmallow sticks were important because this was the axel that the tires would need to spin. CDs were used as the wheels since they are a decent size. The shoe lace would be attached to the pool cue and would spin the back axel to make the wheels spin. The pool cue increased the length of the shoe lace so the axel would spin for a longer amount of time however, it was cut down to a shorter measurement. Balsa wood is a light weight and fragile wood and was used as the body of the car. The mouse trap was the actual "Motor" of the racer. Duct tape and glue were used to attach everything together.
