Welcome to the Safety Shelf project. Its also better known to be the locker organizer project. With this project the students in STEM were required to make a locker organizer to fit in one of the school lockers we have here at the Lacey Township Highschool. It was supposed to have multiple purposes and be something that would be useful universally. This was a group project that required strategic thinking in order to find out the best idea. This type of work interests me because it gave us the opportunity to think of ideas that have never been thought of before. Hint, our idea is super unique and cool. Scroll down to learn more!

When it came to thinking of a locker organizer, our group wanted to think of safety. Since school shootings are unfortunately at an all time high, our group decided to come up with the idea of the safety shelf. This would be a locker organizer that also acts as a Kevlar shield to hold out incase of emergency. The locker organizer would collapse into a thick and durable shield. It would also be just the right size to fit in a student's bookbag. So if the student takes everything from their locker, the locker organizer can be easily take as well. It would still have the normal function of a locker organizer but the shelves would be replaced with Kevlar sheets that would be able to stop up to a 9mm bullet (18 sheets). This locker organizer would also be hung on the top hooks of the locker and hang down. This made it easier to take the locker organizer down incase of emergency.
The Safety Shelf is a locker organizer/bullet proof shield. It would be held against the chest and its placed against the chest in order to protect the vital organs like the heart and lungs. It collapses down to make sure it is easily moveable to any part of the body that is exposed at any given time (if you're running you can hold it against your back).
