Superintendent's Focus

This week has brought some unexpected early “cold” burrrrr weather. Though in some ways I hate to see the summer go, I love some of the treasures that cold weather brings. A hot cup of tea in front of the fireplace on a chilly late afternoon is one of those treasures. While drinking my cup of tea today, I was reminded of a poem my mother shared with me years ago.

Drinking from My Saucer

by John Paul Moore

I’ve never made a fortune and it’s probably too late now.

But I don’t worry about that much, I’m happy anyhow.

And as I go along life’s way, I’m reaping better than I sowed.

I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.

I don’t have a lot of riches, and sometimes the going’s tough.

But I’ve got loved ones around me, and that makes me rich enough.

I thank God for his blessings, and the mercies He’s bestowed.

I’m drinking from my saucer, ’Cause my cup has overflowed.

I remember times when things went wrong, my faith wore somewhat thin.

But all at once the dark clouds broke, and the sun peeped through again.

So God, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I’ve hoed.

I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.

If God gives me strength and courage, when the way grows steep and rough.

I’ll not ask for other blessings, I’m already blessed enough.

And may I never be too busy, to help others bear their loads.

Then I’ll keep drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.

KYTN Teachers, Thank you for being part of the reason MY cup overflows!

Canva is the “design for everyone” tool that has me super jazzed. This online software can be used in education to create projects that not only look great but also help teach students the basics of digital design. This free tool that allows students and teachers to work with photo editing, design layout, and more, all within an easy-to-use platform. While this can be used by students to submit projects, it can also teach them how to work more creatively when laying out work. Teachers can also use the platform to create guidance, posters, and more for the classroom and beyond.

I love the Canva presentation "magic shortcuts":

  • Letter Q for quiet

  • Letter U for a curtain call animation

  • Any number (0-9) for a timer (1 for one minute, 2 for two minutes, etc.)

You can also press Shift + / or ? on your keyboard to open the Magic Shortcuts menu.
