Tullahoma Reopens

In October 2022, our Tullahoma school was placed on hold due to low enrollment. Subsequently, our church created a visioning committee to organize a community outreach day targeted at families with young children, with the objective of reopening the school. This group was spearheaded by Katie Meert.  As part of this effort, we decided to prioritize prayer and fasting. We understood that while God desires a school, He ultimately desires our hearts and the hearts of the students. With this in mind, we sought His guidance as we considered our next steps.

A few weeks later, acting upon Superintendent Pegi Flynt's recommendation, we visited Centerville Christian School to gather insights about their program. Inspired by our visit, we commenced a homeschool day, dedicated to a different career theme every Tuesday. We created crafts, activities, and Bible lesson related to the chosen theme. One of our favorite themes was surgeon day. On that day Chuck Arellano came and spoke to students about the job of a surgeon and we even performed a mock playdoh surgery. We also explored themes such as pottery, construction workers, zookeepers, lawyers, and police officers on subsequent weeks.

Gradually, our event caught the attention of the local community and generated interest in our preschool Kindergarten program. By the end of summer, we had registered three kindergarteners and three preschoolers. Eventually, we were able to reopen with a small group of three kindergarteners, with hopes of introducing a Pre-K program in the future. Throughout this process, we recognized the importance of surrendering our wills to God and praying continuously. We learned that as we give our best effort, God will take care of the rest. Although our work is not yet complete, we eagerly anticipate witnessing God’s blessings as we persistently strive and make progress towards achieving our goals.
