Louisville Adventist Academy Takes on D.C.

Every school year, Louisville Adventist Academy high school students take a History trip to different areas of the Country, giving students a chance to learn more about the United States, as well as make memories with friends. Being a four year senior at LAA, I can say that every trip has been exciting and unique, offering a spiritual and educational experience for the students. The history trip destination for this year was Washington DC, and it was very memorable and fun. While in Washington DC, we visited the monuments around the National Mall, learning about the history of the sites, and taking time to discuss the significance of each monument. We toured different museums including many of the Smithsonian Museums, as well as Ford’s Theater and the Holocaust Museum. We also visited Arlington National Cemetery where four students participated in the changing of the guard wreath ceremony. We then finished off the trip with a day in Baltimore, visiting Fort McHenry and the National Aquarium.

We stayed at Ellicott City SDA church, where we would finish every day with games and a student-led worship service. During worship every night, we were able to discuss the different places we visited every day and how they have spiritual applications. The sponsors gave us all the opportunity to share thoughts and opinions, which I think helped give more depth to what we had learned each day. Overall, the trip was fantastic, and I’m so glad that I, and so many of my fellow students, were able to have this experience.
