Q. Summarise what you did in this activity/project and how you interacted with others?
A. This was a 2-day conference starting from the 6th till the 7th of March. Even though the whole event was conducted through an online platform, is was still and very exciting and thrilling experience. It was tough for interactions with others as it was conducted online but when we formed bloc for debate all the members of the bloc were able to interact as it was a more informal discussion between the delegates
Q. Explain what you hoped to accomplish through this activity/project?
A. I learned a lot of valuable terms and style of addressing. Even though it was very new to me and this was being conducted through an online platform, I was still able to extract useful information and it was a very compelling experience altogether. I hoped to accomplish an improvement in debate and public speaking skills
Q. How successful were you in achieving your goals? What difficulties did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
A. I didn't have many goals, my only goal was to get myself aquatinted with the conference and try speaking and debating against people about a certain world issue. I have definitely achieved my goal. I have a little bit of stage fright, but even though I was thrown completely off my comfort zone, I was still able to talk clearly and state my points clearly without stammering for the first time! This is a big achievement for me.
Q. What did you learn about yourself and others through this activity/project?What abilities, attitudes, and values have you developed?
A. This activity helped me in realising and overcoming my fear of public speaking. It helped a lot that it was through online. I have never thought that I had it in me but this small nudge helped me to propel forward and drive through my fear. I have gained the ability to talk publicly and express my opinions. This experience taught me to stand boldly and articulate what I want to say in a clear and coherent manner. I have developed a positive attitude against my fears and I have understood the value of what your fear is stopping you from
Q. How did this activity/project benefit others?
A. This experience benefitted me rather than other people, but I maybe other people got a chance to attend an TOK conference in the comfort of their homes. They may have also gained the opportunity meeting other people and discovered that many of them have the same interests.
Q. How can you apply what you have learned in other life situations?
A. This activity has taught me to stand boldly and understand different perspectives about a certain topic. It also showed me to be assertive and to be confident with what I speak. Whenever situations arise whether it is a causal discussion or a peak debate about a point, I would definitely apply what I have learned in this experience.
