Q. Summarise what you did in this activity/project and how you interacted with others?
A. I am a part of KIS YES, a business and economics event at my school aimed at teaching young minds to be decision-makers, influencers, and the leaders of tomorrow. Our theme is “ Entrepreneurship in 2030 - Impact of technology and evolution of business models over time”. I am the finance head of this project with a team of five people who will be working with me. I am responsible for Acquiring the funds for the event through sponsorship and Managing the funds before and during the event.
Q. Explain what you hoped to accomplish through this activity/project?
A. From this project, I hoped to learn how to manage accounts, making balance sheet and planning for the expenditure of funds on various resources which will be required for the event for example - zoom subscription. It was my duty to manage all in and out of cash flow done during the event and be responsible for day to day recording of financial transactions.
Q. How successful were you in achieving your goals? What difficulties did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
A. I was successful in handling the finance department for this project and was able to gain sponsorship and raise funds for the event. The difficulties I encountered were, first It was very difficult to pursue different companies to fund our event. Second, It was very nerve-wracking to decide the participation fees so that we could cover the cost of expenditure.
Q. What did you learn about yourself and others through this activity/project?What abilities, attitudes, and values have you developed?
A. Over the time of this event, I learned how to communicate and cooperate with people while looking for sponsorships or managing the team. One of the biggest lessons for me was that I was responsible for every action taken by me or by my team as I was the decision taker and maker. I learned I am liable and answerable to the people who were relying on me such as the head of the event or the CEO of the company who funded us through the event.
Q. How did this activity/project benefit others?
A. It was a solo activity, It didn't benefit anyone except the people in KIS YES who were expecting me to raise funds for the event.
Q. How can you apply what you have learned in other life situations?
A. As future economist aspirant, the skills which I learnt during the event will help me in future to lead and raise fund for my own organization.
