Coping Skills

How big is my problem and reaction?

Coping skills help us manage our strong feelings and emotions appropriately. Using scales and pictures can help us identify how big or small our feelings and reactions are in relation to a problem. When we know how big the problem is we can match our reactions and coping skills to the size of that problem. How Big is my Problem and Reaction scales are found below. These scales can help students become more aware of expected reactions based on the size of a problem. Students can learn to match their own feelings and reactions to the size of the problem.

What are my triggers?

A trigger is something that causes a reaction. Triggers are events that lead to strong emotions or feelings.

If we can figure out our triggers it helps us develop a plan for using appropriate coping skills or strategies.
