Mrs. Brandel's Message

Dear Falcon Families,

Oh, how full my heart is after celebrating these last two days with all of our grandparents and special guests!  The smiles, hugs, and laughs that we have seen as this important part of the Falcon family shared in lunch, desserts, photographs, and some book fair shopping, has filled our school with such a wonderful spirit! What a treasure it is to have so many wonderful people who love our students and what a privilege it has been to meet all of these special people over the last two days!

Our 4th grade students had the BEST time on their field trip to Camp Grady Spruce, where they participated in archery, boat rides, building a fire and toasting their bread and worked together to build a shelter using a few items. They did an outstanding job of representing Florence Elementary School and left the camp even better than they found it, impressing the counselors and staff with their great behavior, teamwork, and ability to learn new skills.  We are thankful for our 4th grade teachers for planning this memorable experience and are grateful to our parent chaperones for your help and support!

Our librarian, Mrs. Roberts, has worked with our PTA in our Book Fair this week and the Book Fair is going great! The early part of this week our students spent trying to "crack the case" as they perused the selection during the book fair previews!  We are grateful for our parents and grandparents who are encouraging a love of reading and have supplied books not only for our individual students, but also for our teachers' classroom libraries which will extend the selection available to students!

As I have continued to meet individually with teachers this week, as we work together in their goals for the year, I have asked them "what do you love about Florence Elementary?"  Time and time again, their answers have consistently been, of course, our students, but our community, our parents and the special activities that make FES what it is!  This week's field trip, and  celebrations with grandparents was another shining examples of our incredible community, as the event was coordinated with collaboration between our amazing PTA, our staff members, our cafeteria staff, all of our dessert donors!  We are grateful for the attention and time that everyone has put into making the day fun and memorable for our students and our special guests!

Next, week we jump into October and have one more week before our much anticipated fall break! October is going to be another exciting month at FES, and I encourage you to look at the upcoming activities and PTA events that we will be having and save the date for both our Fall Carnival and our Storybook Character celebration!   I hope you all have a great weekend!

In Falcon Spirit,

September's Golden Egg

Mrs. Kelly Persyn

Each month, our teachers and staff members vote on a staff member who has has "shined bright" this month, and has inspired, motivated, or gone above and beyond for FES!

This month's golden egg recipient is Mrs. Kelly Persyn.  Mrs. Persyn is our IST and she goes above and beyond each day to support our teachers and students in academic growth.  She has helped with so many beginning of the year, behind the scenes things that help our school to run smoothly, to help us to monitor student progress, and to ensure that our assessment processes are smooth and effective!  She is a great leader at FES and our staff is appreciative of all that she does!

Want to shout out an FES Staff member for embodying the tradition of excellence?

We love celebrating the tradition of excellence at FES!   As a part of that process, we will be recognizing our amazing staff members and would like your help.

Please share the name and information of the staff member you feel who is deserving of recognition along with some words that share the reason they are being recognized. Please note, your response with be shared with the staff member and may be featured in our publications/ social media and any student names that are included may be omitted for confidentiality.

Fill out a shout out on this Staff Shout Out Form to help us celebrate excellence among our FES teachers and staff!

Mrs. DeLeon- Assistant Principal

"Mrs. DeLeon went above and beyond to resolve scheduling conflicts for my student. She communicated with all interested parties to make sure that preferences and requirements were understood. There seemed to be no solution that satisfied everyone’s conditions but she kept at it and amazingly came up with a result that allowed everyone’s provisions to be met. It really is a testament to her desire to collaborate with the families, staff and students for the best of all. We’re so grateful to be a part of a school where all stakeholders are respected and considered. It took a lot of time and dedication and she ultimately found the best outcome."- FES Parent

Mrs Hewitt- Dyslexia

"(Our student) started dyslexia services on Monday. So on Monday night, I asked him how it went. He gave me a thumbs up but then went on to tell me that he had a problem. His problem was that he was only able to spend a little bit of time with Mrs. Hewitt and that he wanted to stay with her longer. I love that Mrs. Hewitt is so welcoming and kind. This is a huge win because (our student) is typically very slow to warm up to new adults. It's really rare that he instantly connects with a new adult especially in a subject that is so hard for him. We are so grateful for Mrs. Hewitt."- FES Parent

New News

🚍Bus Routes

This week, we have been working closely with Texas Central Bus Company in order to balance the number of students on our bus routes in order to ensure that students are on and off of the bus in a timely manner and that they are able to safely arrive to school and return home from school each day. Texas Central has shared that, despite some delays throughout this week, as of yesterday afternoon and this morning, all stops ran according to schedule. We have been taking a couple of extra minutes during this transition week to double-check the names of students on the adjusted routes as they line up in the gym and again when they get on the bus to ensure that students are on the correct bus.

Mr. Harcrow, the director of Texas Central Bus Company, was on our campus yesterday to assist with and monitor the departure of our busses, and to ride one of our adjusted routes and is planning to do the same today. He and his team will continue to analyze the adjusted routes. As our transportation company analyzes routes we will be in direct contact with families should there be any need for modifications.

There are circumstances where there may be a delay in your child's bus route.  In the case that Texas Central determines that the bus is expected to be 11 minutes or more late for pick up or drop off, you should receive an email/text from Texas Central and a notification in the Here Comes the Bus Application. If we have a bus departure delay on campus that places departure more than 10 minutes after our normal time, we will also send a notification through text or email.  Please ensure that you have not blocked email messages, and check your spam/ junk folder. As always, if you need to update your contact information, please reach out to our campus secretary, Mrs. Peters.

Be sure to download the Here Comes the Bus application.  With this, you are able to track your child's bus in real time.

If you have any questions about routes, please call 817-744-1300 or contact our front office and we will be happy to help!

⭕Red Ribbon Month

Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that focuses on educating youth about substance abuse prevention.  This year the official Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd - 31st. The theme is "Be Kind to Your Mind - Live Drug Free."  At Florence we celebrate Red Ribbon Month so we can spread the activities out over each Friday for our theme days. At the elementary level, the lessons focus on making healthy choices for our bodies. For example, healthy food, exercise and positive peer relationships.  For parents, the conversation about safe and unsafe items for kids can start with conversations about common household products that are poisonous for human consumption, such as cleaning products, detergents, etc. Feel free to contact Mrs. Bowen if you have any questions.

We will be celebrating with the following dress up days and activities:

The KidStand Performance team engages the students with games, hip hop dance, singing and a skit that will empower the students to know they can make good choices!

Recess Adjustments

Although the calendar says it is "Fall"- the thermometer is still telling us that it is summer! We will continue to monitor weather and temperatures to determine if it is safe for students to be outside.  Anytime the temperatures or the heat index exceed 98 degrees Farenheit, students may not go outside and will have an earlier recess or indoor recess.  Our aim is to provide students with the opportunity for physical activity, social time, and a general break in the day, and we will do our best to facilitate an outdoor opportunity for students; weather and scheduling permitted.  In the case that it is rainy, students will utilize the classrooms and common space for their recess time and have a variety of activities available for them to choose.
