Mrs. Brandel's Message

Dear Falcon Families,

It has been a wonderfully eventful week at FES!  Our Fall Festival Carnival was incredible!  Thank you, PTA, for all that you do to make these experiences and memories for our kids possible!  My own little family of 4 joined in on the fun and had the BEST time on Saturday with the games, experiences, and delicious food!  I loved seeing our Falcon Families sharing in the carnival festivities and enjoying our school together!

We have had so many events this week as we kicked off the week with a performance from STAND for Red Ribbon Week and they shared with our kids to "Stand Up, Stand Strong, and Stand Out" and encouraged them to be kind to their minds.  We also enjoyed a preview of the Addams Family Musical from Keller High School as they visited FES as their first stop of their tour.  Our students enjoyed hearing the songs and seeing the Tango dance!

Storybook Character Day has been such a fun day as we have shared in the celebration of reading with Storybook Character Day! There have been so many smiles shared today and I have loved seeing the creativity and excitement behind each of the costumes!   We welcomed several Keller High School band and theatre students who read to some of our classes today and we had several KISD principals and district leaders joining as guest readers!  Our students met their reading buddy from another class today and shared in some of their favorite stories together with an older or younger student.  We also had a visit from Watson Polk who shared with our 4th grade students using an assisted communication device that utilizes eye gaze technology to speak.  We also welcomed Robert Hollmann, who is a local author of Texas History and a FES grandfather!  He visited with and read to our 3rd and 4th grade students today!  It has been a fun day of reading and a perfect way to close out the last Friday in October! Thank you to our parents who joined us today for the parade and congratulations to all of our costume winners who received a fun gift bag from our librarian, Mrs. Roberts and will also be receiving a book to take home on Monday!

At the conclusion of each event, I am always so in awe of the Falcon spirit and the passion that our community shares for our school!  As a principal, that is such a wonderful feeling and I am so grateful for those who lead, serve, participate and share in these events and activities for our students!  Thank you!

As we move into the month of November, our students are continuing to deepen their learning, and it is hard to believe that we are already looking ahead at the middle of the year!  November will bring  some opportunities for us to  see how we are progressing as we will be conducting the STAAR interim (3rd and 4th grade students) and conducting our middle of the year MAP tests.  These tools provide us with a snapshot to measure the growth of our students and to determine how successful we have been on the learning so far, and what areas we need to continue to reinforce to ensure that our students are learning and growing well!  We  are so proud of all that they are doing and grateful for the incredible learning experiences that our teachers provide for them each day!   We also appreciate our parent support and partnership in working together to help our students learn and love their time at Florence!

In Falcon Spirit,

Courtney Brandel

Storybook Character Day

FES Reading Fun!

Our teachers and students loved representing different characters today as they shared in a parade, reading activities, and a class picnic! Each class selected their favorite boy and girl costume and the winners received a gift bag from our librarian and get to choose a book to keep from her special collection on Monday!

Storybook Character Videos

Our videos are still working to upload to this folder.  They will all be uploaded on Monday!

Reading Buddies

Our upper grades are partnering with our lower grades in order to share in reading fun together! We kicked off our reading buddies program and plan to continue it every other Friday this year!  Our students loved sharing in stories together today!

Special Guest- Watson Polk

Watson Polk visited our 4th grade classes as a guest reader today.  He shared with our students that he developed a disability at 5 months old that impacts his ability to use his legs, mouth, and hands.  In order to communicate, he utilizes a unique technology that relies upon eye gaze.  He shared his story wtih our students, did several impressions including Batman, Queen Elizabeth, and Yoda, and then shared in reading some of his favorite stories.  We are grateful for Watson and his mom who volunteered to join us for the morning!

Author Visit- Robert E. Hollmann

Our 3rd and 4th grade students enjoyed a visit from Mr. Hollmann, Texas History author and expert (and FES grandparent of Emmy in 4th grade)!    He shared all about how to become a published author, talked about many of our Texas heroes and read an excerpt from his book for our students!  What a privilege it is to have had him here with us today, inspiring our students!

FES GUEST READERS

We loved having our district leaders and Keller High School band and theatre readers today! Thank you to Keller High School Band Students, Keller High School Theatre Students, David Rische (Principal, ELC North), Lisa Simmons (Keller High School Principal), Tracy Johnson (KISD Human Resources Director), Brenda Reibkes (BCI Principal), Dr. Kevin Hood (KISD Assistant Superintendent- Elementary Schools), Amanda Schneider (KISD Literacy Coach), Julie Kerr (KISD Math Coach), Mr. Jeong (Watchdog Dad), HR Lugo (Keller Middle School Principal), Lynn Jameson (KISD Director of Special Education), and Jennifer Hinds (KISD Special Education Coordinator) for sharing in reading to our students today!  Check out some of the reading fun below!

April Hetherington- 4th Grade

Nicole Howard- 2nd Grade

"Everyone would agree that Mrs. Howard is the sweetest teacher ever. Our 2nd grader loves her. We had out of state company visiting at our house and our son. Our son didn't want to miss school on Friday because he didn't want to go three days without seeing Mrs. Howard. He wanted to "at least" tell her goodbye for the weekend. You are so loved Mrs. Howard and thank you for making everyone feel so loved."- FES Parent

Anna Marie Rice- 3rd Grade

"Mrs. Rice has been the biggest blessing to our son. She sees his potential and pushes him to work hard in everything he does. She recognizes all of his strengths and has helped him realize his full potential. Her classroom management has impressed us over and over. She is exactly what our son needed for third grade. So grateful to have her on our team and we are so excited about the progress we have made in just nine weeks of school."- FES Parent

⭐️Please remember you must complete a volunteer app and background check prior to volunteering on our FES campus.

Important information regarding duties of volunteering:

***Attention volunteers: to protect instructional time and the privacy of the students, volunteers are asked to complete their service in the workroom in the front office or in their designated volunteer area.  Please do not go into the classrooms or other areas of the building during instructional time unless pre-arranged with your teacher.

Each teacher has a box in the workroom (located in the island cabinets) with tasks they need help with for the week. Teachers sometimes plan and prep curriculum together as a grade level, so some teachers may have more in their boxes than others. Some teachers have lots of volunteers for their class and some don't have any! We want to make sure all of FES staff benefit from our wonderful volunteers. So, when you visit the workroom, please help to:
