Kindergarten

SY24-25

information

Welcome to Nimitz Elementary School! Your child is about to embark on their next big step in their education. As many Kindergarteners are fresh to the public school system, their transition into school is a very structured process.  This letter is to inform you of our Kindergarten Testing Schedule, Orientation, Meet and Greet, and ABCD Group Days for the first few weeks of SY24-25.

Kindergarten Testing Schedule

When you receive this letter, you will be assigned to a Testing Group that is listed on the cover of the Kindergarten Welcome Packet. Each group is assigned a day to come to school in order to be tested for class sorting purposes. Please drop off your child at 8:00am at Room 102, and pick them up at 12:00pm at Room 102. Please note that school lunch services will only be available on August 6 (Group D). Any students in Group A, B, or C should be prepared to come with a home lunch.

Kindergarten Supplies
Please bring your child’s school supplies on their assigned testing day. Please place as many items possible in the “Rubbermaid Dish Pan” (from the list provided). Teachers will receive your items in Room 104 that day, and keep it until your child is placed in their respective classroom. Labeling of items as instructed is extremely important.

Parent Orientation

The parent orientation for Kindergarten will take place on Friday, August 9 from 8:15am to 10:00am. Kindergarten parents will not only get their opening introduction to their child’s respective classrooms, but also the entire school operation. This is also when you will learn of your child’s class placement. We ask that only one parent attend orientation without children as there is limited space in each classroom

Optional Meet and Greet

Kindergarten’s Meet and Greet will be on Friday, August 9 from 1:30pm to 2:00pm (later in the day of the Parent Orientation). Together, you and your child have the opportunity to meet your child’s Kindergarten teacher, as well as other classmates. More details will be shared at the Parent Orientation.

Staggered First Days
Once Kindergarten class lists are established from the testing process, we will begin the Kindergarten School Year with two groups at a time. As the schedule shows below, students will stagger their first days between Groups A & B and Groups C & D. This will help mitigate any overwhelming feelings from a large number of students.
