8/9/2022- Updates and Reminders

Weekly Reminder: NES Absence Reporting System- If you know your child will be absent, it is important you notify us using our absence reporting system. You can report an absence using this link, which is also available on our website and at bit.ly/NESAbsenceReport.

Meal System Reminder- Due to multiple inquiries in recent days, we’d like to remind our families that for the 2022-23 school year, school meal operations will return to the normal National School Lunch Program, where only eligible children will receive meals at a free or reduced price. If you are eligible for free or reduced price meals, please see our front desk to apply.

NES Vehicle Placard System- Ensuring the safety of our students during dismissal is important. Particularly in our vehicle line, we want to make sure we are sending the correct students to each vehicle. Starting in SY22-23, we are kindly asking parents/guardians who pick up their children in the vehicle line to create a vehicle placard. This placard, when created from this form, can be placed on your dashboard so our staff can easily identify which student should be leaving campus in that vehicle. Once you fill out this form, please allow us at least 48 hours to print the placard and place it in your child's backpack. When the placard makes it home to you, simply follow the instructions and place it on your vehicle's dashboard when picking up your child.

Military Family Life Counselor- As a school that primarily services the military community, we are privileged to have a Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) on site at Nimitz ES. Ms. Krista, our MFLC this school year, has sent home a permission form for families with military service members that would be open to seeing our MFLC. By signing this form and turning it back in to your teacher you ARE NOT committing to anything, but merely allowing Ms. Krista to see your child should needs arise. If you have any questions, you may reach out to her at 808-307-4440.

Kama’aina Kids After School Care- At this point in time, there is still room to attend the Kama’aina Kids after school care program which is housed on site at Nimitz ES. If you are interested, please call 808-285-4538 or visit www.kamaainakids.com.

School Drinking Water Update- In regards to our ongoing monitoring of the Red Hill water crisis, on July 6, 2022, the U.S. Navy, in coordination with the Hawaiʻi Department of Health (DOH), released data on the second month of long-term drinking water monitoring for all 19 Navy water distribution system zones. The monitoring data found no jet fuel contamination and determined that drinking water met U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and DOH standards for the second consecutive month. Our school will be using the water supply for all normal uses including drinking, hand washing, cooking, cleaning and maintenance. Starting this week, water cooler dispensers will be available in our cafeteria for students and in communal areas for our staff to fill bottles and containers as a drinking water option. Meal service and all other school operations will proceed as normal.

Spirit Days SY22-23- As we move into week 2 of the school year, we will begin our Spirit Days! Every Friday (or last day of the week) we celebrate a theme to bring the school community together. This week’s Spirit Day will be “Crazy Socks Day”. Come to school with socks in whacky colors, high tops, or even those funky toe socks.

NES PTO Newsletter- Please see the link for the most up to date information from NES Parent Teacher Organization. In particular, please note that the PTO’s first meeting will be this Wednesday at 6:30pm in the Nimitz ES Cafeteria. Please park on Main Street to attend.
