10/20/2026- Updates and Reminders

Fall Festival 10/23- Join us for our Fall Festival Mini Carnival on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Nimitz Elementary. The proceeds will support classroom supplies and student activities. Enjoy food, games, entertainment, and prizes for everyone. Scrips (tickets) will be available for 50 cents each, redeemable for games, bounce houses, and beverages at the Anchored 4 Life Tent. All games will cost 2 scrips. • Short Day Swap- We will be swapping our short day to Friday. Therefore 10/21 will be regular dismissal (2:00pm) and 10/23 will be a short day dismissal (1:10pm)

• Event Parking- Our backfield will be utilized for vehicle parking. You may enter from Main Street near the Korean Catholic Church.

• Aupaka Gate- For the festival, the Aupaka Gate will be opened from 2:30pm to 5:45pm.

• Volunteers Still Needed- For this major event, a lot of man power is needed. If you are able to lend a hand, it would be greatly appreciated. Please fill out this Fall Festival Volunteer sign-up if you would like to help. Shifts for volunteers will be roughly an hour and 15 minutes. 

Unity Day 10/21- National Bullying Prevention Month is celebrated annually during the month of October. This month focuses on uniting communities nationwide to educate and raise awareness regarding bullying prevention. National Stop Bullying Day which we coin as Unity Day, will be tomorrow Wednesday, October 21. On Unity Day, we will be recognizing kindness and empathy by wearing the color orange, so we encourage all of our students and staff to wear orange on this day. 

Q1 Report Cards and Progress Reports- Report cards and progress reports for Quarter 1 are slated to be sent home by student courier tomorrow, Wednesday 10/21. If you have questions about your child’s report card or progress report, please contact your child’s teacher. 

AVID Wall Update- Stop by the cafeteria to check out the Third Grade’s spellbinding new bulletin board: “Roll A Story”! Our creative third graders rolled the dice to craft spook-tacular Halloween tales! Follow characters like Benjamin Bat and Zombie Zoey as they navigate ghostly mix-ups, missing candy, and unexpected invisibility—right here in our school! Don't miss these fun, skill-building masterpieces. Come see creativity in action today!

Halloween Festivities- As the Halloween holiday approaches, we’d like to address the typical questions about the holiday. Please see them below…

• Costumes?- YES, students may wear costumes to school on the Friday before Halloween (10/30). However, we ask our parents to please make sure they are elementary school appropriate. If a costume is found to be disruptive to learning (i.e: Disturbing gore, vision impediments), we will need to make modifications. 

• Treat Bags?- If you would like to distribute items for Halloween festivities, please adhere to our treat distribution policy on page 20 of our Parent/Student Handbook. 

• Candy?- Families, please monitor the amount of candy your children bring to school. Not only may excessive candy consumption disrupt learning, but it encourages food sharing which can bring a danger to some students.

Absence Reporting Reminder- If you know your child will be absent, it is important you notify us using our absence reporting system. You can report an absence using this link, which is also available at bit.ly/NESAbsenceReport.

  • Please provide your child’s name, classroom and teachers name in the notes to the seller. We fill orders weekly by delivering them to your child’s classroom so that they can bring them home to you. If you have concerns about your order, please email us at ptonimitz1@gmail.com.

• Box Tops: Helping Nimitz is as easy as grocery shopping! Download the Box Tops for Education app, select Nimitz Elementary as your school, and start scanning your receipts. Every time you shop and scan, a portion goes right back to our school-no clipping needed! 

• Popcorn Friday: Popcorn Friday is scheduled for 30 October 26.  Preorders are up and running on our square website Click here to purchase! To give us time to plan, all preorders will need to be in by the 28th. Don’t worry- will make sure to pop extra for those who didn’t get a chance to order and would like to purchase with cash after school. 

• Change Wars: Our “Change Wars” competition is coming to an end. Our next and final collection will be tomorrow at Fall Fest, so make sure to bring your change. Each grade has a jar to collect coins for positive points towards their grade. They can also place paper money (dollars) in their competition jar to generate negative points and sabotage them. The winners will be announced the week after the Fall Fest and will receive a Pizza Party as a prize. Click here to track your child's grade!

• Fall Fest Pizza Sales: The PTO will be selling pizza slices at the Fall Fest again this year. We accept cash and card, but are not able to take scripts. 

• Soaring Stars: Pass on the positivity by telling us about a teacher or staff member who has gone above and beyond. Click here to nominate a Soaring Star.

• Volunteers: Available events this month to sign up to help with are: Fall Fest Pizza Sales on 23 October, and Popcorn Friday on 30 October (Link available soon).
