Halloween Festivities- As the Halloween holiday approaches, we’d like to address the typical questions about the holiday. Please see them below…
Costumes?- YES, students may wear costumes to school for Halloween. However, we ask our parents to please make sure they are elementary school appropriate. If a costume is found to be disruptive to learning (i.e: Disturbing gore, vision impediments), we will need to make modifications.
Treat Bags?- If you would like to distribute items for Halloween festivities, please adhere to our treat distribution policy on page 19 of our Parent/Student Handbook.
Candy?- Families, please monitor the amount of candy your children bring to school. Not only may excessive candy consumption disrupt learning, but it encourages food sharing which can bring a danger to some students.
Parent Teacher Conference Survey- In efforts to plan for SY26-27, special exceptions for the Nimitz ES SY26-27 calendar must be submitted for approval in January 2026. One exception Nimitz Elementary administration requests every year is a modification to the Parent Teacher Conference schedule from a 1.5 week long after school schedule, to a 2 waiver day schedule. In efforts to solicit parent feedback into this possible exception, we’d like our families to give their thoughts on this exception through this google form. More details about this request can be found there as well.
NES Student Council Canned Food Drive- Our Student Council is hosting a Canned Food Drive from November 3–7. Please drop off any non-perishable food donations in front of the cafeteria from 7:30–7:45 AM. All donations will go to the Hawaii Foodbank to help families in our community. Our goal is 1,500 goods. Mahalo for your support! Click here to see our flier, and click here to see our student-led video advertisement for our Food Drive!
Federal Shutdown Free or Reduced Lunch Reminder- The Hawaii Department of Education would like to reach out to families that have been impacted by the federal government shutdown by reminding them that free and reduced lunch service may be available to them. Please see this flier for more information.
Absence Reporting Reminder- If you know your child will be absent, it is important you notify us using our absence reporting system. You can report an absence using this link, which is also available on our website and at bit.ly/NESAbsenceReport.
