Family Engagement.mp4In JCPS, a digital citizen is a SAFE, SAVVY, SOCIAL person using technology in order to engage in the world around them. They have developed an understanding of digital citizenship, which is the appropriate and responsible behavior when using technology. JCPS digital citizens of all ages use the internet regularly and effectively.
Being SAFE, SAVVY, and SOCIAL digital citizens requires that we protect ourselves and others, educate ourselves and others, and respect ourselves and others.
The Family Engagement Support resources are designed to support you and your learner in their journey of becoming a digital citizen.

Digital citizenship is grounded in our ability to be safe. While technology has provided us tools that make it easier to create, connect and share, our own lack of understanding and judgment creates a new set of challenges. The future is now. We must make intentional shifts in how technology is integrated into the JCPS learning experience.
In the age of digital learning the JCPS backpack skills are more important than ever. The growth and changing nature of technology teaches everyone that we can never stop learning. Technology has opened the possibilities of how to learn new skills. It is our responsibility to understand and maximize the potential of these tools.
Humans are social by nature. We choose to group with others like ourselves. As members of a community we tend to connect with those like us. This can be the difficult aspect of trying to interact with others online and even though we try and stay with those most like us, it is almost impossible not to bump into others that want to try and change our minds, our beliefs.
