At A Glance:

Digital access refers to full electronic participation in society. In the school system, this includes equitable access for all students, accommodations for those with special needs and programs for increasing digital access outside of schools.

It is important for technology users to understand that not everyone has the same level of access to digital technology. This gap between those who have access and those who do not is often referred to as the digital divide. Part of being a good digital citizen is working to eradicate this disparity.

About this Activity:

Students learn about the digital divide and its impact across the globe.

Guiding Questions:

  • Do you see access to current and emerging technologies and resources in your district and community? If not, what is missing?

  • As a student, do you see reliable access to technologies and resources in your school? If not, what is hindering access? How might the hindrance be addressed and resolved?

At A Glance:

Digital fluency is the process of understanding technology and its use. The better educated or “digitally fluent,” you are, the more likely you are to make good decisions online, like supporting others instead of making negative comments. Digital literacy includes the discussion of media literacy and the ability to discern good information from poor information, such as “fake news” from real news.

About this Activity:

Students learn why evaluating websites is important and how to do it.

Guiding Questions

  • How are digital footprints created?

  • What does yours show about you?

  • Who can see it and how is your information used by others?

  • How can you deliberately create a positive and professional representation online?

  • How can you reflect on your own digital footprint and online presence, and the value and benefits of the choices you make for yourself and significant others?

Digital Commerce is the selling and buying things online and the necessity to tackle safety issues while using money in the digital world.

About this Activity:

Students learn about how influencers inspire or guide the actions of others.

  • When making a purchase, what sources do you turn to in helping to identify the quality and function behind products and services being considered?

  • Do you understand the purpose and function of targeted online advertising?

  • What do you know about digital currency/cryptocurrency?

Students are encouraged to create a video around personal interests or passions that can be shared with classmates. In this experience, students explore being effective communicators while also working through the technical logistics of producing unique content.
