I started off doing this project just for fun, without really an idea on what I wanted to draw. I was using ibis paint. As I scrolled through the paintbrushes I discovered the pentacle. At that point, I was reminded of a character I had written for a story. She had not yet appeared visually so I decided to go ahead and design what she would look like. Her name is “Anarchy”. I created the translucent lenses by changing the opacity of that particular layer. “Anarchy” represents the angst felt within a misunderstood person.

During Visual Art class we were studying different Art Periods anytime we were asked to do NTI (Non Traditional Instruction). Our teacher told us about Van Gogh and his struggles with mental health. I used ibis paint for my Van Gogh inspired art piece. I looked at his self portraits and tried to capture his brush style, and the art period Post Impressionism. I feel like the work also portrays the sadness he felt. I painted this (digitally) stroke by stroke, working quickly. I did not trace, I just tried to recreate a section of his self portrait with this technique. The title refers to how a person may feel underneath the outer layers seen by others.
