Literacy Unlocked

As the weather warms up, take reading outside! Let your child grab their books or notebooks and take them outside for a  little outdoor reading or writing. Take your child on a reading nature walk, looking for items that start with letters of the alphabet or a Five Senses Nature Walk. Interested in challenging your child, have them complete this 2o Book Challenge.

This year's WJES March Book Madness winner is..... Yeti's are the Worst.

Thanks to all of our students and teachers for playing along this year! We can't wait until next year!

Upcoming Events

Dear West Jackson Elementary School Family,

I am reaching out to extend a special invitation to West Jackson ES to participate in our upcoming Pedal Palooza event on April 13th at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson, GA. As educators dedicated to the growth and well-being of our students, we believe that this event presents a fantastic opportunity to engage children in outdoor adventure and promote a love for biking in a fun and safe environment.

The Georgia Cycling Association is a renowned organization dedicated to promoting cycling as a healthy and enriching activity for individuals of all ages since 2013. Our programs encompass a wide range of initiatives, from youth cycling events to competitive racing opportunities. With a focus on community engagement and fostering a love for biking, we are proud to introduce our newest initiative, the Trail Rangers program (3-5 grade), as an expansion of our existing offerings. Trail Rangers will further enhance our commitment to providing accessible and exciting biking experiences for the community, ensuring that individuals of varying skill levels can enjoy the benefits of cycling in Georgia's beautiful outdoor landscapes.

Pedal Palooza events are specially crafted for children in 3rd to 5th grade, aimed at introducing them to the thrill of mountain biking. Our goal is to make outdoor activities accessible to all children and create lasting memories of adventure and exploration. Each event is designed to be engaging and educational, offering a chance for kids to try mountain biking for the first time and enjoy a short adventure ride at the end. The events typically run for about 2 hours.

To ensure that every child can participate, we will provide a fleet of bikes and helmets for those that don’t have the needed equipment. By removing barriers like equipment availability, we aim to ensure that all students have the opportunity to join in the fun and excitement of Pedal Palooza. Moreover, we will host an informational gathering during the event to introduce parents to our upcoming Trail Rangers program, scheduled to launch in March of 2025. This program will offer the community even more exciting biking opportunities, and we believe that your school can play a crucial role in spreading awareness and fostering participation.

We kindly request your assistance in promoting this event within the school community. By sharing information about Pedal Palooza with students and families, you can help us reach more children and provide them with an enriching experience.

For families with rising 6th graders or middle school-aged students, your school's involvement can be pivotal in guiding them towards our existing 6th to 12th grade mountain bike Team MTB program, offering a seamless continuation of their biking journey.

If you are interested in partnering with us for Pedal Palooza, please do not hesitate to reach out. Your collaboration can greatly impact the success of this event and enrich the lives of the participating children. In appreciation of your support, we are more than willing to highlight West Jackson in our event promotions, giving recognition to the school's commitment to holistic student development and community engagement.

Thank you for considering this partnership opportunity. We are excited about the prospect of working together to create a memorable and rewarding experience for the young biking enthusiasts at West Jackson .

It is VERY IMPORTANT for all families to set up an Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account. Click HERE to set up your child's account. This account allows you to receive important school messages through the Remind app, see student grades and attendance. If you have trouble with this process, email Mrs. West (rebecca.west@jcss.us). After a parent portal account has been activated, please allow 24 hours for the information to sync with the Remind app to be able to message teachers. If you are unable to use Remind at any time, please send your child's teacher an email.
