Career Readiness

In Pennsylvania, Career Education and Work (in accordance with 22 Pa. Code § 4.12(5)) is defined as “understanding career options in relationship to individual interests, aptitudes and skills including the relationship between changes in society, technology, government and economy and their effect on individuals and careers. Development of knowledge and skill in job-seeking and job-retaining competencies and, for students completing career-technical programs, the skills to succeed in the occupation for which they are prepared.” Pennsylvania learners will be prepared for meaningful engagement in postsecondary education, in workforce training, in career pathways, and as responsible, involved citizens.

O*Net OnLine – Occupational Information

  • And for a shorter version of the Interest Inventory and a more simplified version of the O NET site, search www.mynextmove.org. This Interest Inventory can be saved as a PDF or screenshot, printed and saved in a teacher’s on-line storage for their class.

Career One Stop – career videos, self-assessment (Get My Future)

  • The best way to see what the Career One Stop site has to offer is to view the video that showcases the various video collections. These videos could be used in lesson planning, with the reflection piece becoming the evidence piece the student could submit electronically.

  • Get My Future allows the student who is able to be self-directed to complete activities that could become pieces of evidence that, if submitted electronically, could be artifacts for collection.

Va Career View – specific activities for grade bans

  • Example - From the Main Page go into the K-5 tab. There, find Career Town with 23 different games to play, Computer games to play that are All About You, Unusual Occupations and the like. This site has a separate tab for Grades 6-8, 9-12, Parents and Professionals. The user will need Adobe Flash on their device.

PA Career Zone – games for younger students, interest assessments, career exploration

  • An Educator is able to create an account, and students may create free accounts too. With your account you can:manage up to 50 students, build and assign basic lesson plans, send messages and run reports to monitor student progress.

U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics -- Games, videos and career information

  • Career Exploration and Videos begin at Grade 4 - 12. Other information such as STEM Occupations, The Economy at a Glance and Monthly Data charts and Maps begin at Grade 6-12.

WINTAC presentation - links to Online Industry tours, Work Based Learning Experiences, Transition Portfolio tool

  • WIthin this presentation there are links to Industry Tours and of particular interest is the T-Folio tool: T-Folio Link. This tool has built in lessons, powerpoints - designed for upper grade students.
