ePORTFOLIO COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE ZOOM
INVITE PEERS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS to your ePORTFOLIO PRESENTATION, Dec. 10/2PM on ZOOM
Friends and peers are welcome to attend your Wednesday, December 10, 2PM presentation over your ePortfolio integration experience. Because you're presenting on Zoom, this is a chance to share your work in a convenient format for peers and others who might like seeing you present. Guests can read about/sign up to attend our ePortfolio Community of Practice via the campus event calendar
https://events.iu.edu/indianapolis/event/2136004-eportfolio-institute-community-of-practice-faculty
Your presentation should be 5 to 7 minutes, then expect some lively Q&A. We're excited to see the ways you scaffolded ePortfolios into assignments as well as seeing samples of some students' in-process work [most ePortfolios are not done yet].
Want to see past presentations to get ideas?
If you would like to watch previous presentations by faculty who completed the ePortfolio Institute last year, visit the link below, then scroll down to Jennifer Bute's or Carrie Sickman's presentations: https://sites.google.com/iu.edu/iuieportfolio--amy-oliver/cop-community-of-practice/recordings-cop

There's no need to recreate the wheel. Feel free to present from your PARTICIPANT PAGE on our shared Google Site.
You can to use the link below to access, update, and publish your ePortfolio page about your integration progress
If you prefer to build/use a slide deck, that is fine: make this as easy and beneficial for you as possible. Some faculty use this as a trail run for materials they're pitching to conferences.
PLEASE let me know if you need to present earlier or later during the Zoom. Barbara will share her math class ePortfolio experiences first to fit her schedule; we can adjust the presentation order to fit your schedule.
Note: You received an Outlook calendar invite to the December 10, ePortfolio COP last month. If you would like me to resend the invite to you, drop an email to djoeschm@iu.edu As always, you're welcome to connect with me if you have questions, want to talk ePortfolios, or need to commiserate as the semester ends.
POST COURSE SURVEY: PLEASE GET STUDENT FEEDBACK
First, thank you for circulating the pre-course survey; there was great participation. The pre-survey helps establish a baseline from which to consider student feedback on the post-course survey. You can see pre-survey results on your Participant page.
It is almost time to circulate the post-course ePortfolio survey.
You can access the post-course survey link and sample assignment on our shared Google Site page
Here is a sample assignment that previous ePortfolio Institute faculty circulated on Canvas as an Assignment:
---POST SURVEY: Copy/Paste into Canvas Assignments---
Please take four minutes to complete this survey to share your thoughts and experiences in our ePortfolio course.
To verify that you completed the survey, take a screenshot or photo of your screen at the very end of the survey that states your response was recorded. Then, upload that photo into this assignment.
To take the short survey, visit: https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4T4l1PZhO3GhJBk
Thank you for your hard work this semester!
----END/ CANVAS ASSIGNMENT OPTION----
I appreciate your work this semester and look forward to hearing about your experiences with ePortfolios, student push-back, creative problem-solving, and pedagogical innovations.
All Best,
Debbie
Hello!
Thank you for your ongoing work to integrate ePortfolios into your course. As part of the HIP/ePortfolio Institute, there are professional development opportunities like Communities of Practice [COP] as well as times to connect with peers in your cohort, Faculty Learning Communities [FLCs].
You have received emails from the IEL listserv about upcoming events. This is a follow-up to remind out about our COP/FLC Kickoff next week.

Hello!
I hope week three of your course is going wonderfully. This is the time of year that classes and assignments speed up and faculty workloads pile up. If you would like to talk about these challenges, I'm here to listen.
TWO REQUESTS:
Have Students Take the Pre-Course Survey
Send us a list of your students in your ePortfolio class [copy/paste]
PRE/EARLY COURSE STUDENT SURVEY: ePORTFOLIO BASELINE INFORMATION
We Need More Student Responses to Establish a Baseline
If you haven't already, please ask your students to complete the pre/early course ePortfolio survey. This sets a baseline for analysis of the December post-eP survey, and these surveys are a critical part of connecting with students about their ePortfolio experience.
Here's a link to the pre-course ePortfolio survey: https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5mOMu0KgLjExGVo
Want a quick Canvas Assignment Option for the pre-survey? Just copy and paste the "pre survey" assignment below into Canvas.
---PRE SURVEY: Copy/Paste into Canvas Assignments---
Please take four minutes to complete this survey to share your thoughts and experiences with technology and reflection. Then, take a screenshot or photo of your "completed survey" screen at the very end of the survey that states your response was recorded. Upload that photo into this assignment to verify that you completed the survey.
To take the short survey, visit: https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5mOMu0KgLjExGVo
For survey links and more information on pre/post surveys, visit our 205-26 ePortfolio Grant Faculty ePortfolio: https://sites.google.com/iu.edu/2025-2026eportfoliogrant/survey-links-responses
COPY/PASTE LIST OF STUDENTS
As part of an IRB study, we plan to track student retention, GPAs, and graduation rates in relation to engaged learning courses, like your ePortfolio course. Please copy/paste your roster from SIS Faculty Center, View Rosters, into an Excel and email it to taracall@iu.edu.
Let us know how we can help!
All Best,
Debbie

SENT AUGUST 25
Hello!
As classes get started, the ePortfolio Team is here to support you and your ePortfolio work this semester. Here are a few reminders and updates.
Use Canvas to Circulate Pre/Post ePortfolio Surveys
It's time to circulate the early-semester Student ePortfolio survey. Canvas assignments are a great option to get student to complete the survey.
https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5mOMu0KgLjExGVo
Option to Test Drive the Survey: Feel free to click on and take the survey yourself as "test student" in "test course" to see what your students will see. We'll purge any "test" surveys.
Want to share the survey as a Canvas activity? Here is a Canvas Assignment Mock-Up for circulating the survey. Feel free to copy/paste the activity, edit it, or build your own.
STUDENT SURVEY on ePORTFOLIOS: Please take four minutes to complete this survey to share your thoughts and experiences with technology and reflection. Then, take a screenshot or photo of your "completed survey" that states your response was recorded. Upload that photo into this assignment to verify that you completed the survey.
To take the short survey, visit: https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5mOMu0KgLjExGVo
Schedule A Class Visit with the ePortfolio Team
Would you like someone from the ePortfolio team to visit your class? We can help your students open a technology and build their ePortfolio structure as well as copy/paste/insert an assignment they turn in to you by Canvas. To schedule a visit, go to https://eportfolio.indianapolis.iu.edu/faculty-staff-resources/professional-development/index.html
Navigating the ePortfolio websites at IUI: The classroom kickoff request form is on the ePortfolio website. Go to the top right corner and click on faculty/staff. Then, the classroom kickoff button is under the professional development tools.
The Engaged Learning & ePortfolio Showcase is Back!
After a summer of MIA web pages across the Indianapolis and Bloomington websites, the ePortfolio Showcase is back.
https://eportfolio.indianapolis.iu.edu/showcase/index.html
Please share the showcase link with your students. Ours is the largest, public-facing repository of college student ePortfolios that invites students to share work in any platform with a live URL.
You can use the Showcase search feature to find ePortfolios that you like to share with your students. Seeing examples helps students better understand the range of options they have with ePortfolios. Here are some samples that help illustrate the ways students might use their ePortfolios differently:
Kennedy: https://sites.google.com/iu.edu/kennedygarrett/home?authuser=0
Kennedy used her ePortfolio as a learning repository to store most of her Kelley projects and papers.
Roman: https://www.romanmoreno.com/home#aboutme
Roman used his Honors ePortfolio as a showcase to support his applications for law school and professional pursuits.
Anna: https://sites.google.com/iu.edu/annaescobarmarketingportfolio/marketing-plan/social-media?authuser=0
Anna embedded social media reels as mock-ups for her course-focused ePortfolio to showcase her learning in Health Marketing
Blair: https://sabacant.wixsite.com/mysite
Blair and her team partnered with Scouting America to help a local troop identify the best ways to communicate with their troop parents. They shared their recommendation report with SA through a project-focused ePortfolio.
ePortfolios are a flexible/adaptable way for your students to take ownership of their work and create/reflect on the engaging projects they tackle in your class. Then, they can link their portfolios to showcase career readiness skills that make them strong candidates for grad school and professional pursuits.
Updates to Your "When Done Well" Faculty-Gant Participant Page:
Add Your Updated Syllabus
You are welcome to make updates to your Faculty Grant Participant Page at any time. Use the Google Site to track things that are meaningful to your course/curriculum design and things you want IEL to know. You can even include the dates you circulate pre/post surveys as a way of tracking your grant progress. You can also use the Google Site to stash information for your FAR.
For quick access to your page, click the link below, then find your name to link to your page
TEMPLATES, Templates, templates + YES, the Studio team will build one for you
There are ePortfolio templates available to you and your students in WIX and Google Sites.
If you would like a template tailored to meet your students goals, email djoeschm@iu.edu
Link to WIX Tempaltes: https://eportfol.wixsite.com/epstudio-templates

EXCITING PROGRESS: Templates Built This Summer
Several of you worked closely with Tara Callahan to build ePortfolio templates for your students. These represent ground-breaking in both scope and technologies.
Two templates that are already "live" include:
SLA Internship templates, available through Google Sites, IU Templates, under the Course Templates section. Special thanks to Tara and Hannah for her hard work on these ePortfolio templates. [Note: Some of you had issues accessing IU Google Sites this week. It isn't you; it's IU Google. We're working with UITS to get this fixed.]
-and-
Health Service Management, available through the Wix Template website. Special thanks to Tara and Keely for their hard work on the Wix template.
AS YOU MAKE UPDATES to your SYLLABUS, please revisit and update your ePortfolio Grant Participant page to share the "before ePortfolios" and "after ePortfolios" versions of your syllabus + more.
First, upload your syllabus to you Google Drive.
Then, click the + on your Participant page to search/select the file.
If you have challenges with the upload, feel free to email taracall@iu.edu
Your ePortfolio Grant page is a great place to document your ideas, dates you met with the ePortfolio team, curriculum development progress, eP templates, Canvas assignments, and more.
Some previous faculty opted to make updates at each major phase of your ePortfolio course development and implementation. Then, it's 92.4% done at the end of the grant.
RE-ORGANIZATION of the Institute for Engaged Learning [IEL]
You may have heard that Dr. Daday resigned his leadership role in the IEL to return to full-time teaching in Sociology. Dr. Downey will assume these roles for one year, then the administration will decide on next steps. IEL has also been in a two-year re-organization cycle. To learn more about the changes in IEL, read the newsletter included below.
As always, you are welcome to connect with our ePortfolio team at any time. We're in the office all summer to support you!
All Best,
Debbie

SUBJECT: ePortfolio Session 2 + Update Participant Page + Summer Meeting with Debbie
Hello!
Thank you for attending the ePortfolio grant sessions to help support ePortfolio integration into your course. If you were not able to attend both sessions, please connect with me.
MATERIALS SHARED DURING SESSION 2
The goals of our second session were to
revisit the 11HIPs and 8/10 Essential Elements of a HIP;
access/begin editing participant pages on the ePortfolio Grant Google site;
experiment with the five website management tools students can use to build in any digital format as part of editing your Google participant page [picked the platform, managed a page, added words, added an image, added a hyperlink]
share ePortfolio integration ideas; and
get a clear idea of the end of grant report, which will be materials shared on your Participant page.
NEXT STEPS: BEGIN UPDATING YOUR PARTICIPANT PAGE, UPDATE YOUR SYLLABUS, & DECIDE to use a template or no template
BEGIN UPDATES TO YOUR PARTICIPANT PAGE
Part of the grant scope includes documenting/sharing your ePortfolio integration experience. We will share these experiences on the grant Google Sites which will both document your progress and allow you to experience challenges/opportunities students might face as they build their ePortfolios.
Here are THREE LINKS to support your work on your Participant page: a link in EDIT MODE to the participant page, which links to your page, a link in PUBLISHED/VIEW mode so that you can access pages on the Google ePortfolio website easily; and a link to last year's ePortfolio faculty grant pages, to get ideas.

WANT IDEAS? VISIT LAST YEAR's ePORTFOLIO FACULTY GRANT SITE: You can look at last year's participants' pages, scroll through student surveys, and more at https://sites.google.com/iu.edu/iuieportfolio--amy-oliver/grant-participants?authuser=0
UPDATE YOUR SYLLABUS + SHARE the Before & After on Your Participant Page
As you think of the ways you want to integrate ePortfolios, a great place to start is with an update to your syllabus, prior to micro-level modifications to course assignments, then edits to Canvas Discussions/Assignments.
If you run into any challenges uploading your old or new syllabus to your Google Site participant page, feel free to email and Zoom with Tara or me: we'll work through this with you.
To TEMPLATE or NOT TO TEMPLATE?
If you decide that you would like to have a template, it's ideal for us to build that for you over the summer. Let us know what we can do to help you make this decision. We're here to help.
Summer Check-In with Debbie [prior to August 15]
Your last grant responsibility for the summer is to meet once with us to share ideas. This meeting is to support your work and explore options that optimize your course as well as the student experience as they integrate ePortfolios. Email with days/times that work with your schedule.
Thank you for being part of the grant and for you openness to exploring the world of ePortfolios.
Sincerely,
Debbie

OUR NEXT MEETING: ON ZOOM, planned around your schedule
Our next meeting will be on Zoom.
Please click all of the days/times
you can meet on our ePortfolio Doodle Poll:
https://doodle.com/group-poll/participate/dJWXY42e
When we Zoom, we will share ideas and look at some course models that might help as you move forward with your ePortfolio work.
Some of you are already using ePortfolios. Others of you are new to ePortfolios. Our ePortfolio team is here to support you at every stage of your work.
ONE MORE THING: Some of You Are Thinking Complete Overhaul + Others Are Focusing on ePortfolio Integration
After conversations with a few of you, some of you are thinking of making changes in your course and assignments. We are here to support this work with an eye toward engaged learning and career readiness competencies. If this is you, focus on course changes -THEN- later we will explore the ways ePortfolios can enrich/support your goals.
Others of you are focusing on ePortfolio integration. We are here to help you think about when and how to maximize ePortfolios for student learning.
Since you all are teaching different courses, at different levels, in different fields, there is not a "one size fits all" approach to ePortfolios. However, there are some basics strategies to consider:
What are five spaces you will integrate ePortfolios in the class? [Your introduction of the ePortfolio during week one counts as #1 + peer review/sharing of the ePortfolio can count as another]
What are specific assignments/projects that students will place into the ePortfolio, then turn in through their URL to Canvas? [Target at least three projects/assignments--some of you might include more]
When/How will students reflect on their learning in relation to course work and the ePortfolios? This should happen at different times during the semester. [Student reflections could be written, drawn, journey maps, insta-snap-a-tweets, recordings, photo-blogs, or other reflective strategies.]
*Most ePortfolios do include a final written reflection over mastery of course content, course goals, learning, skills, transference of skills, and development of career readiness competencies.
NEXT ZOOM = Faculty Learning Community
Our May Zoom will function similarly to meetings we will have twice during the Fall semester, as part of our ePortfolio Faculty Learning Community--you might see this referenced as an FLC.
During our May Zoom/FLC, we will talk through some of your ePortfolio ideas in relation to the three points above:
ePortfolio integration plans,
ePortfolio-related assignments turned in through URLs on Canvas, and
reflection on learning during our FLC Zoom.
I will work with you [around your schedule] to help you meet your course planning goals over the summer.
As part of the grant/institute expectations, you and I will Zoom one time prior to August 10 to talk about your ePortfolio plans. If you would like to meet more than once, I'm thrilled to hear more about your plans. The ePortfolio team and I are here to support you and to build tools with/for you that help you with ePortfolio integration.
Feel free to email with questions and ideas anytime.
All Best,
Debbie

___________________________________________________
2025-2026 Institute for Engaged Learning
When Done Well: ePortfolio Course Integration Institute and Faculty Learning Community
The "When Done Well: ePortfolio Course Integration Institute," is a faculty learning community (FLC) for those seeking to start or improve the use of ePortfolios in an undergraduate course or courses during the fall/spring semester/s, 2025-2026. One of the goals of the Institute is to implement concepts from the IU Indianapolis ePortfolio Implementation Taxonomy:
"ePortfolios are a framework for learning, a space for students to collect evidence of, reflect on, articulate, and create new learning over time. ePortfolios support powerful teaching and learning, assessment, student development, advising and career counseling, and professional and personal identity development along the pathway to graduation. Composing an ePortfolio helps students learn to communicate in multiple modalities, responsibly manage their online identities, and develop as learners and emerging professionals. ePortfolio practice can help students integrate learning across the curriculum, co-curriculum, and experiences outside of school, contributing to a more meaningful and purposeful educational experience. ePortfolios offer rich information for assessment and improvement of curricula, teaching, and learning."
This Institute is for faculty at IU Indianapolis, Columbus, and Ft. Wayne who plan to integrate or optimize ePortfolios in an undergraduate course during fall 2025 and/or spring 2026 semesters.

A Zoom FLC meeting in late May 2025, for progress updates and course planning
A 1:1 consultation in early August, 2025, with an FLC facilitator

Your participation in this grant champions campus priorities to optimize student success through engaged learning opportunities.
ePortfolios In Your Course
In most cases, ePortfolios can integrate seamlessly with your current curriculum to maximize student learning through reflection and emphasis on career competencies.
While your proposal detailed a unique opportunity for engaged learning with ePortfolios, here are some first steps in implementing your idea:
Strategically integrate ePortfolio building and curation at five points during the semester.
Build an ePortfolio plan, create corresponding Canvas assignments, then add instructions and due dates to your syllabus.
We are excited to partner with you for the 2025-26 ePortfolio Institute and look forward to talking with your more at the May 2 workshop.
Please respond to this email with your acceptance -or- decision to opt out of the ePortfolio Grant by Friday, April 25 at noon.
Sincerely,

Welcome to the IUI Engaged Learning "When Done Well" Institute on ePortfolio integration at the course level.
Friday, May 2, 9AM:
ePortfolio "When Done Well" Institute Kickoff
We're excited to meet with you and kickoff the ePortfolio Institute this Friday morning.
Hine Hall [IP] rooms 222 and 226 are reserved for the "When Done Well Institutes" faculty participants for ePortfolios and Project-Based Learning. We will meet together with other "When Done Well" faculty, then move into the ePortfolio sessions.
9:00-9:30: We'll start with a light breakfast and registration—this is the perfect time for coffee, after-commute breakfast, and meeting your ePortfolio peers.
9:30-10:30: Jerry Daday will welcome faculty and share best practices for High-Impact Practices.
10:45-11:25: After a short break, our ePortfolio Faculty Learning Community [FLC] will discuss ePortfolios at IU and strategies to integrate ePortfolios into your course.
11:30-12:00: The ePortfolio FLC will hear from current ePortfolio Grant recipients [via Zoom].
12:00-1:00: We will have a working lunch, catered by Cluster Truck.
12:00: We will select a day/time to regroup on Zoom later in May to share course modifications and assignment designs.
1:00-2:00: You have the option to stay with the ePortfolio team to work on your course design or step away to work on your ePortfolio plans independently.
ORDER YOU LUNCH with CLUSTER TRUCK by WEDNESDAY
We will have a working lunch from 12-1:00.
You will order your own lunch: IEL will cover the bill.
Use the link below to order what you would like to eat for lunch at Friday’s Institute. Please have your order placed by no later than 5pm Wednesday, April 30.

If you are not familiar with ClusterTruck, select the food you want, add food items to your bag (and make sure you enter your name with each item), then add your order to the group (two clicks).
Parking: The closest parking garage to Hine Hall is North Street Parking Garage, 819 W. North St. Take the parking garage elevator to the 3rd floor: exit right onto the skywalk, which leads to Hine Hall. The Institute for Engaged Learning [IEL] is through the doors, on your left. The double-glass doors adjacent to IEL lead to classrooms 222/226.
If you have questions, feel free to email me.
Welcome aboard! We're excited to partner with you as you integrate ePortfolios into your course.
All Best,
Debbie
