Lakehead University's NEW Mechatronics Undergraduate Engineering Program
Lakehead is now one of six universities in the province and the first in Northern Ontario to offer a degree in Mechatronics Engineering.
Ranked as #1 in Canada for Undergraduate Engineering by Times Higher Education 2022, Lakehead is a proud leader in engineering education.
Lakehead's six undergraduate engineering programs include: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, and now Mechatronics Engineering.
Completing the Mechatronics Engineering undergraduate program will provide students with an engineering degree as well as an engineering technology diploma in only 4 years, including an option to pursue a BEng/MBA double degree.
The first intake for Mechatronics will be in September 2023 for the Thunder Bay campus exclusively.*
What is Mechatronics?
In Mechatronics, your students will learn to design computer-controlled electromechanical systems for robotics, prosthetics, UAVs, and next-generation additive manufacturing.
One of the fastest-growing fields in engineering, Mechatronics is the design of robotics, control systems, and electromechanical systems. This multi-disciplinary branch of engineering is at the intersection of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Computer Science.
Mechatronics allows students to integrate multiple engineering disciplines into one rather than thinking in silos.
This will enable students to think from the perspective of a much wider engineering system.
Our BEng Mechatronics Engineering program has been designed to prepare students to create technologies that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
With sustainability at its core, this unique program integrates business, law, and public safety into the learning experience, giving students a deeper and broader insight to accompany their engineering expertise.
Lakehead's Mechatronics students will be pioneers.
Students will make their mark as the first of many generations of Lakehead mechatronics engineering alumni to come, with endless opportunities to enrich their education through co-operative education, entrepreneurship, undergraduate research, hands-on learning experiences, clubs, and more.
Combine Mechatronics with an MBA.
Lakehead University is the only Canadian program that allows for the concurrent study of Engineering and the MBA. In year three of the Bachelor of Engineering program, students can begin courses in their MBA.
