How to Create and Complete Your CAS Entries
Summary
Each CAS experience entry needs to be added to your CAS worksheet on ManageBac.
For CAS experiences to be meaningful, you need to set a goal and select the relevant CAS learning outcome(s).
The reflective process on your goal and CAS learning outcomes achievement will help show your CAS progress on ManageBac.
Your 'supervised' CAS experiences are mainly your ISKL co-curricular activities. Your club advisor/ coach will be your 'CAS supervisor', who will review your attendance and meaningful participation at the end of the commitment period (e.g. one season, one school year, etc. as per your club/ team/ event's timeline).
Your CAS project entry needs to have your project proposal, the approval form, and your progress on planning and implementation in the CAS stages.
Your CAS entry on ManageBac needs to be approved by your CAS Advisor or the CAS Coordinator.
How to Complete CAS Experience/ Project Entries on ManageBac
Step 1: Setting Goals and Learning Outcomes in the Context of Your Personal CAS Journey.
Please complete the 'Description and goals' box with the details below in each entry of your CAS worksheet on ManageBac:
Your background and interest in the experience or project: Your prior experience (or the lack thereof) in the particular club activity, sport, etc. and why you wish to engage with it for CAS (e.g. because you enjoy it, you are passionate about it, you've always wanted to try it, etc.).
Frequency and location: How often do you do this activity per week and for how long, e.g. 'On Mondays from 15:10 - 16:30 in Room H101', etc.); whether you will commit to it for one season, one semester or one academic year, etc.
Cause, purpose and goals: What is the societal or global cause that you need to advocate for? Who are the people in your partner community? What needs to be achieved? What should be your personal goal and group/ team's goal?
Select at least 3 of the 7 CAS learning outcomes to focus on.
Supervisor name and contact details: e.g. coach or teacher's name and email address. For ISKL staff and faculty, use the Ampang or Melawati Campus phone number.
Submit the orange 'CAS Activity Advance Permission Form' signed by you and your supervisor. This form is also available from the CAS Office.
When the above is completed, your entry on ManageBac will be approved by the CAS Team.
Step 2: Demonstrating Progress on Your Goals and Learning Outcomes
How you show your progress on achieving the goals you set will be mainly done in the form of reflections and any audiovisual material to support your discussion in the Reflections and Evidence section of your CAS experience/ project entry.
Please see the details of how to reflect meaningfully reflections in the 'Reflections' section of this CAS website. Reflections that serve as evidence of your goal achievement and focus on the relevant CAS learning outcomes will usually have the following elements:
Your observations and feelings on what you have been doing and experiencing.
Self-evaluation of your strengths and areas for growth in view of your goal achievement.
Specific discussions of some CAS learning outcomes that relate to the process of your goal achievement.
What you have learning through your communication and collaboration with others towards your personal goal achievement and that of your team or your project.
Some issues that have been challenging your goal achievement.
Any insights that you have been gaining throughout the process.
In addition to your reflections, the following and other pertinent materials can also serve as evidence of your achievement of the CAS learning outcomes:
Photos taken on site: Remember, this is compulsory if you have undertaken any CAS experience or project with a non-ISKL supervisor (the one requiring the orange advance permission form).
Video clips that you and your collaborators made about the particular CAS experience or project.
Website link of the organization associated with your CAS experience or project.
Any material demonstrating your work at different points in the CAS stages: investigation, preparation, action, reflection, and demonstration: e.g. survey results, activity/ lesson plans, project proposals, posters, brochures, photos of the actual products (e.g. murals), video clips, etc.
Step 3: Completing an Entry and Obtaining Your Supervisors' Reviews
This is the last step to be taken, after the items in the previous sections (1. and 2. above) have been completed.
Write your final reflection to discuss how your CAS experience/ project ended, and what you have learned the most through the process.
Upload any and all planning documents and audiovisual/ website material to show your work.
Click on the 'Request supervisor review' button in each of your CAS experience or project entry in your CAS worksheet on ManageBac to request it via e-mail. This button appears only after you have written and saved at least one reflection in the entry.
If your non-ISKL supervisor does not feel comfortable using the ManageBac supervisor review form online, then ask him/ her to sign the paper CAS Experience/ Project Verification Form and hand it to the CAS Coordinator.
Even if you know that you will be continuing with the same clubs, athletics, projects, etc., please make your CAS experience and project entries for your Junior and Senior year separately. This is to ensure that your supervisors can verify your attendance and have seen your progress during the whole semester/ season/ academic year. So, all of your entries on ManageBac from your Junior year must to be reviewed by your supervisors in April or May of your Junior Year, and all of your entries from your Senior year must to be reviewed by your supervisors in February - April of your Senior year.
Step 4: Obtaining the 'Completed' Green Check Mark
Once the three steps above have been completed, your entry will be officially marked as completed. When this happens, you will see a green check mark next to the title of your entry. There will be a short message left in your entry, also delivered to your ISKL email account, stating that you have completed the CAS experience/ project, etc.
Once an entry is marked as completed on ManageBac, you cannot make further modifications to its contents.
