EXTERIOR SURVEY PHOTOS
Site Survey
Exterior photos are fairly simple, but there are items to be aware of. Those in the engineering department who are responsible for designing a quality product for the customer and installer never set foot on site so it is paramount to capture everything accurately for them. Context is everything with exterior photos.
Get photos of every roof section even if the proposal design doesn’t have solar on it.
The designer may have cause to use other roof sections depending on a number of factors.
Getting these photos from the start will avoid resurveys, extensions to the project timeline and additional cost.
Don’t submit this for roof photos.
These photos give the designer nothing to go off of.
Does not indicate anything about the roof condition.
Does not indicate how many obstructions are on each roof section and their locations.
Get photos of all roof obstructions showing where they are located in context.
The best method is to pan from left to right as shown.
Try to capture this in only a few photos per roof section.
Don’t submit this for roof photos.
This photo doesn’t indicate what roof section is being shown
Photo does not provide any context for which obstruction this is or where it is located.
Get photos indicating the roof condition:
Close up on the roof
Photo showing the number of layers
For site photos:
Make sure to get photos that show every side of the house.
Give extra care to get photos of the meter location in context
Try to indicate where the meter is in relation to the street side/front of the house.
If the MSP is not beside the meter, please do your best to indicate where the MSP is in relation to the meter.
If it is indoors and more than 10 feet away from the meter, this will change the design criteria slightly, so it is important information to note.
Do not submit only these photos of the meter
These photos are fine, but we still need photos that show the area around the meter and indicate where it is on the home.
These photos do not provide that context.
Make sure to get photos of fences and gates and where the electrical equipment is located in relation to the gate.
In addition, please get a photo of the front of the house with the house number in view.
