WORK QUEUE REPORT:
ENGINEERING - Ready for Structural Stamp
Order of priority:
Restamps
New Stamps
TRAINING MATERIALS:
SLA EXPECTATIONS:
Structural Stamps & Restamps: 1 business day SLA from time of assignment
NAMING CONVENTION:
[First,Last] [File Type (example: Structural Letter)] [date (0-00-0000)] STAMPED
CHECKLIST OF STEPS:
If the project has a date in the “Design: Structural Engineering Restamp Required” tab then follow the SOP for Restamping Jobs below.
Accept the job to bring it into your name
If the Engineering step isn’t in project assistant, head to “Tools” then click the “Stage” dropdown under “Generate Conditional Stages and Steps” and select “Design and Engineering” then “Structural Engineering Stamp” then “Next.”
Refresh the page afterward, not just the tab in Salesforce.
Once the Engineering step is in project assistant, click the dropdown on the left of the word “ENGINEERING,” then the one on the right next to “Structural Engineering Stamp,” and select “Accept” to put it into your name.
Click on the “File Browser” tab next to project assistant.
Click on “Field Pro Images” just below the tabs on the far right side.
Click on “View Summary” next to the site survey folder to view survey images in a new tab.
Alternatively, you can click on the folder itself to see the list within salesforce if the images are not appearing in the new tab.
Determine the type of framing.
If trusses, continue with next step
If conventional framing, review images thoroughly and check plans for accuracy in size, spacing, and length of the rafters calculated.
If all looks accurate, continue to next step.
Return to the file browser by clicking on “Return to File Browser”
Click on “04-Design” in the list of folders
Click on “Permit Plan Set”
Find the file that has “PLANSET” in its name with the most recent date and scroll click (click with the scroll button on the mouse) the word “Download” on the right of the planset file to open it in a new tab.
Review the plans to ensure that
The type of framing is correct.
The size, spacing, and length of the rafters is correct if conventional framing.
Sheet S-5, which includes the structural calculations, is included in the plans.
The wind exposure category is correct.
Sheathing mounts or blocking is called for if there are flat rafters in any location we will be installing on.
All upgrade details are shown if structural upgrades are required.
If the plans are incorrect in any way, follow the SOP for “Sending Jobs Back for Revision” below.
Review the structural letter to ensure that
The type of framing is correct
The size-spacing, and all framing information is accurate based on the planset and survey images
The letter calls for sheathing mounts, blocking, or upgrades as needed.
If the plans and structural letter are correct and the calculations are correct, move on to step IV.
Download the plans and letter to your desktop and add the word “STAMPED” to the end of the name.
Open them in Bluebeam then complete stamping. Begin with the planset:
Press the number you have assigned to the stamp for the state that the project is in (i.e. 1 for UT) to make the stamp appear.
Click the mouse once to place the stamp. The date automatically updates
Right-click the stamp, select “apply to pages,” and write “1-4” in the page range box. Press OK or hit enter to apply the stamp to those pages.
Click through the pages to verify that the stamp is not overlapping any text. Move the stamp to an open location if it is overlapping text.
Verify that the stamp is not on any sheet after sheet S-5.
Flatten the document with the flatten button.
CTRL+S to save.
If a structural upgrade is required, add the following note on the sheet with the roof sections called out (RS1, RS2, etc.) and change the font color to blue:
For sister upgrade only: “SISTER UPGRADE REQUIRED ON [insert all RS’s that upgrades are required on]. ATTACH NEW 2x[4 or 6]s PER DETAIL ON SHEET S-5.”
For sister and collar tie upgrade: “SISTER & COLLAR TIE UPGRADES REQUIRED ON [insert all RS’s that upgrades are required on]. ATTACH NEW 2x[4 or 6]s & NEW DOUBLE 2x6 COLLAR TIES PER DETAILS ON SHEET S-5.”
Press the number you have assigned to the stamp for the state that the project is in (i.e. 1 for UT) to make the stamp appear.
Click the mouse once to place the stamp below or next to the engineer’s name. Resize as needed.
Flatten the document with the flatten button.
CTRL+S to save.
Open each document you have saved and look over each structural page carefully:
Make sure all stamps are on all needed pages
Additionally, make sure that the correct stamp was used.
Make sure each structural page has all needed structural values and that there are no errors on the plan set.
Make sure each structural page is arranged in such a way that each page is fully legible and free of clutter.
If a structural upgrade is required:
Double-check that the Special Service for the upgrade has been created.
If no Special Service for the upgrade has been created, send the project back for corrections with a change order and create the Special Service per section F below.
If the Special Service has been created, review the layout of the array and update the scope of work and materials needed to be accurate for how many rafters need to be upgraded.
If correct, leave a note on the Special Service telling the owner of the object that the scope of work is updated for the planset you’ve stamped.
If not, adjust the scope of work and materials accordingly and leave a note saying that you’ve updated it.
Add the upgrade details and information to the structural letter and planset.
Open the planset in Bluebeam and:
On sheet S-3 (roof plan) press “T” to add a textbox and write “[TYPE OF UPGRADE REQUIRED] UPGRADE REQUIRED ON [ROOF SECTIONS THAT THE UPGRADE IS REQUIRED ON]. ADD NEW [SISTERS OR COLLAR TIES] PER DETAILS [DETAIL NUMBERS] ON SHEET S-4. ONLY RAFTERS LONGER THAN [MAXIMUM UNSUPPORTED PASSING SPAN] REQUIRE SISTER UPGRADES.” Place the text box next to the callouts for RS1, RS2, etc.
EX: SISTER & COLLAR TIE UPGRADE REQUIRED ON RS1 & RS2 IN ALL LOCATIONS OF PANELS. ADD NEW SISTERS & COLLAR TIES PER DETAILS 1 AND 2 ON SHEET S-4. ONLY RAFTERS LONGER THAN 7’ REQUIRE UPGRADES.
On sheet S-4 (structural details), copy the text box you added to sheet S-3 and add it next to the upgrade details on sheet S-4.
If the upgrade details are missing, create a change order to send it back to design to get the details added.
Open the structural letter in Bluebeam and:
Run the calculations for the rafters in Forte with the required loads and the correct size and spacing of the rafters. Adjust the maximum span until the rafters pass without sisters.
Make sure that the paragraph after the “Required codes and loads are as follows” section includes this sentence:
“Only rafters with an unsupported span greater than [X] must be upgraded.” and in place of X, you put the maximum passing span from the Forte calculation in step 1 above.
Include the phrase “on [roof sections that need to be upgraded, ex: RS1, RS2]” right after the phrase “be sistered to the existing rafters…” so that it reads “be sistered to the existing rafters on [roof sections that require upgrades].”
In the Permit Plan Set folder in Salesforce, click on “Archive” next to every previous version of the planset and structural letter.
Head to the “Permit Plan Set” folder.
Click the “Upload File” button in the upper right corner.
Drag the files for both the stamped plans and letter into the box that appears.
Press “OK”
Press “complete” for the step in project assistant.
If you’re on QA or you need the job reviewed by the engineer, enter today’s date in the “Structural Engineering QA Required” field then press “Next” and leave a project note.
If you’re not on QA or the job doesn’t need to be reviewed by the engineer, fill in the completed date and click “Next” to move on to creating a project note.
pay attention to the “Design: Structural Engineering Restamp Required” tab.
If there is a date in that section then it’s been stamped before and just needs to be restamped.
View the Design and look at the “Plan Set / BOM Revision Reason Details” field under the “Plan Set” section
If the reason was a planset revision not related to anything structural, move to step C below.
If the reason was a planset revision or anything else that was structurally related and the letter needs to be updated, then download the letter and update it with Bluebeam.
Complete steps IV-IX in the “Stamping Jobs” SOP above to upload the plans and complete the project.
