The Graduate Program in Materials Science has 13 laboratories:

• Mechanical Testing Laboratory

• Magnetic Resonance Laboratory

• Electron Microscopy Laboratory

• Laboratory of Thin Films and Solar Cells

• Ceramic Materials Laboratory

• Metallography Laboratory

• Biomaterials Laboratory

• Laboratory of Polymer Environmental Testing

• Laboratory of Thermomechanical Treatment

• X-Ray Diffraction Laboratory

• Laboratory of Polymeric Composites Using Natural Fibers 

• Ballistic Testing Laboratory

• Cryogenics Laboratory

These laboratories are constantly upgraded through projects funded by development agencies. In addition, some laboratories, such as the Mechanical Testing Laboratory and the Electronic Microscopy Laboratory are used by professors and students of other institutions in collaborative projects.

In addition to the laboratories located in the premises of the Military Institute of Engineering, the program uses the laboratories of other units of the Brazilian Army, including the Brazilian Army Technology Center (CTEx), the Brazilian Army Assessment Center (CAEx) and the Ricardo Franco Instruction Park (PIRF).
