Dr. Given's cat, Meathead, may make a guest appearance at your Zoom session!
If you're wearing a mask, at least have a little fun!
About Dr. Given
I grew up in Cincinnati, OH and attended Anderson High School before studying education at Miami University. My career began in Montgomery County, MD as a second-grade teacher. I earned my M.S.Ed. at the Johns Hopkins University in Math and Science Education and then moved back home to Cincinnati in 1995 to begin my work at Indian Hill. I'm now in my 32nd year of being an educator and continue to enjoy working to develop students as scholars. Since coming to this district, I've taught 3rd grade, computer classes, served as the technology facilitator, and the IHMS Gifted Intervention Specialist before becoming the supervisor of Brave Virtual Academy.
In addition to supporting BVA, I work with teachers new to the district and their mentors, serve on our teacher leader instructional team, and assist in professional development initiatives. I teach graduate courses for Xavier University in their gifted education endorsement program. In 2016, I completed my doctorate in education at the University of Cincinnati in Curriculum and Instruction. The focus of my research was studying the ways school culture impacts teachers and the importance of being intentional in building a positive culture in schools to support educators, learners, and their families.
My husband and I currently live in Norwood and we spend our free time reading, chasing down new music, traveling, and learning new stuff.
This is a presentation I have shared with students at the beginning of the year when I was in the classroom that tells a little about my background and interests. You can find out more @DrKimGiven, from my GoodReads reading list and from my highly intermittant blog posts.
I look forward to working and learning with your child this year!
