Our leaders and teachers are mindful that the challenges of this school year will have an impact on the future - perhaps not in the ways we originally anticipated. We've learned that our students and families are highly resilient. We've seen new and additional ways the power of community and relationships impact learning. We want to ensure you and your child have everything you need to be successful in upcoming transitions: wrapping up this school year into the summer and into the following school year.
Our #IHBVA Plan for Easing Transitions
We see our next opportunity in how we celebrate this year and welcome our learners into next year:
We think that some learners and families will continue to need an online option for the next school year. We have been talking to parents, teachers, and students and are planning for next year. We will have more clarity after we know the status of the bond issue and levy vote on May 4th.
We think that some learners and families will be nervous about the levels of safety in school buildings. We plan to share the protocols we have put into place as well as information about the success we have had in keeping our in-person learners healthy this year.
We think that some learners and families who are planning to return to in-person instruction may have some anxiety about being in a classroom, being away from home, being around larger numbers of people, etc. We will be hosting events in our buildings this spring to invite those who feel safe to join with others on campus and to reacclimate to our schools. We also plan on having some specific orientation support for BVA learners returning to in-person instruction next year.
We think that some learners and families may want to participate in key on-campus rite of passage events and we want to make sure that BVA students are invited to attend. Stay tuned to your building newsletters for times and dates of graduation and other big happenings at the end of the year.
Finally, we are planning end-of-year virtual celebrations that include all BVA learners to reflect on the year and to get excited for what's to come.
8th Grade
8th Grade - Class of 2025
Save the date! We are excited to be able to host our Eighth Grade Graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 27 at 10:30 am in person! More information and details will be coming in late April as we are planning our event to meet all of the Ohio Department of Health orders. Students will be limited to two guests each. Please fill out this form if you intend for your BVA 8th grader to attend 8th-grade graduation in person.
As part of the IHMS graduation tradition, 8th graders are chosen to be a part of the graduation ceremony by giving a speech at the graduation ceremony and/or by designing the cover to the graduation program.
Any 8th-grade student wishing to be considered for giving a speech, please fill out the application here.
Any 8th-grade student wishing to be considered for the artwork on the graduation program, please fill out the application here.
Applications are due April 30. Please see Mr. Carpenter or Mrs. Bunevich if you have any questions.
Our Eighth Grade Graduation is a long-standing tradition at Indian Hill Middle School. This formal event is the culmination of countless hours of preparation by our staff, parents, and of course, our students.
What to Wear
Boys: Our graduating gentlemen are expected to wear a button-down collared shirt, tie, dress or khaki pants, and a jacket for the ceremony. Dress shoes are also expected and gym shoes are not permitted.
Girls: Our graduating ladies are expected to wear a dress or pantsuit (any color is permissible). Ladies are not permitted to wear gym shoes. Due to walking down the stairs and across the stage, it is our recommendation to wear flats, sandals, or shoes with a small heel.
If you need any financial assistance with the attire, please contact your child's counselor, Mrs. Katie Bunevich or Mr. Nick Carpenter at 272-4642.
Traditionally, students leave after the ceremony for a celebratory lunch with family followed by a PTO-sponsored grade level get-together. Our PTO has been busy planning this celebration for the Class of 2025. More information on this event will be coming from our PTO soon!

IHPS Art Show April 21st - 30th
The Primary School Art Show will be taking place on April 21st-30th! Students have worked hard this year to create some incredible masterpieces that deserve to be celebrated. During the week of the Art Show, Lauren Girdler will be sending parents a link to a Google Slideshow. Each slide will showcase each student in your child's class and their work created this year. BVA Teachers will be showing the slideshow to students, but we thought you might like to see student work as well.
While presenting the slideshow, parents are encouraged to create conversations around artwork such as:
“Which artwork are you most proud of and why?”
“Which artwork was the most challenging and why?”
“If you could change one piece or spend more time on one, which would it be and why?”
We hope you enjoy experiencing your child's art with them!
