The South African territory is mostly made up of highlands, that are called High Velt. The Great Scarpata is a plateau which is divided into several mountain ranges. The Scarpata includes to the east and north important mountain ranges: the most important mountains are the Drakensberg Mountains, with peaks of more than 3000m. Beyond the scarpata is the floodplain called Lower Veld. The most important river is the Orange (1860 Km) to the west. South Africa's lakes include Lake Sibhayi in Kwazulu-Natal, Groot Vloer, formed by the Sak River, and Lake Santa Lucia, near Durban.
There are about 56 million people who live in South Africa. This is a multi-ethnic country; there are: white, black, Asian and mixed ethnic groups who live together.
Agriculture is one of the most developed in Africa, but with strong imbalances: there are efficient and productive farms that implement highly specialized plantation farming but also subsistence farms, practiced in villages with traditional methods. Agriculture and fisheries not only meet all national needs, but also produce export products. South Africa is one of the main producers of sheep's wool and karakul fur.
