IRELAND
Ireland is a big island west of Great Britain. It is called the Emerald isle because it is a beautiful green land, full of mountains, lakes and hills. Politically it is divided in two parts: the Republic of Ireland, independent, with capital Dublin, and Northern Ireland, part of the UK.
Dublin is a beautiful and friendly city, full of young people.
There are a lot of pubs and nightclubs where you can listen to live music.
U2 are the most famous irish rock band.
The Aran islands are a group of three islands off the west coast of Ireland.
Larger towns have supermarkets and small department stores. Irish towns have the usual collection of small shops. In villages where there are not many shops, the pubs sometimes serve as a grocer’s too.
Irish food and cooking is simple and based on local products: milk, fish, potatoes, meat, eggs, butter and cheese.
Some delicious specialities include fresh salmon and soda bread.
Dublin has fast food restaurants as well as international restaurants serving Italian, French, Chinese and Indian food.
