Preparing the programme notes
The selection and final programme choices will be justified in the programme notes. Programme notes are not intended to be extensive elaborations about works or their context. Instead, they are there to introduce and justify the choice of the programme.
Within the 600-word-count limit, it is suggested that you should include the following:
A brief introduction to explain the focus that lead to the selection of the programme you'll be performing (main theme/rationale of your recital)
Justification of choices, including the areas of inquiry that the works fit into, together with an explanation of the categorization, which may contain:
basic information on the creators of the work
contextual background of the work for the purpose of justifying the choices
how the work is related to others of the same style, genre or tradition.
Selection of programme
You will present work that has been developed to your best musical and technical standard during the course. When selecting material for submission, students should consider how effectively, the following questions have been addressed.
Criterion A: Programme notes
The selection and final programme choices will be justified in the programme notes.
Does the programme cover all four areas of inquiry?
Have the areas of inquiry been identified in the programme notes?
Is there diversity in the style, genre, conventions and practices?
Criterion B/Criterion C: Musicality and technical proficiency of created works/performed works
Are the technical and musical demands appropriate?
Have the technical and musical demands been met?
Criterion D: Musical communication
Have your musical intentions been communicated across the created and performed works?
Is there evidence of musical interpretation or thoughtful musical decision-making?
Does the notation of the submitted work clearly communicate the musical intentions?
Does the quality of recordings enable effective musical communication?
