Teacher's note on today's class (no need to read):
One thing that I found out from today's class was the difficulties of not helping them too much. Giving them time to discuss on how they should work a piece together is something already difficult because of them lack of the knowledge on how to rehearse. One group was able to find some source on YouTube to start learning their own parts by listening and following the music notation, which is a good start for people doesn't know too much about reading music. Another group were quite lost on learning their own part because they couldn't do the same thing by finding the same parts on YouTube, although one of them still used YouTube to find the original version of the song and understand how the song goes and how the main melody sounds like. The version they chose is in SATB which supposed to harmonized and support the main melody well, but right now, the most difficult step is probably learning their own part, which one of them may want to punch out the sound on the piano for the others to learn how their part should sound. The SATB group would benefit a lot with someone punching out the notes for each part to properly start a rehearsal (which I'm hoping one of them could do it).
This is also a good practice for them to do some music notation reading, although they still haven't really learn about key signatures... They touched on scale degree (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) which means I could teach them about intervals that could benefit them on singing...
