How will I be graded?
Great question! I’m so glad you asked! There are 3 different components to your assessment: Explore (30%), Experiment (30%), and Present (40%). Each unit will cover a different topic which will have a number of different assessment tasks - sometimes exploring, sometimes experimenting, and sometimes presenting. At the end of the course, you will select your best work to submit to the IB.
Explore(探求領域):
You will explore music from 2 Areas of Inquiry. Externally assessed.
Write about personal, local and global music (2400 words)
Create an exploration of 32 bars or a 1-minute excerpt
dapt music and perform on your instrument (2 minutes)
Experiment(実験領域):
Experiment with music from 2 different Areas of Inquiry. Internally assessed.
Write a detailed experiment report (1500 words)
Create 3 experimental compositions (5 minutes)
Perform 3 experimental performances (5 minutes)
Present(発表領域):
You will present music from all 4 Areas of Inquiry. Externally assessed.
Researching and writing a summary of program notes (600 words)
Creating an original composition or improvisation (6 minutes)
Performing as a soloist or as part of a group (12 minutes)
