Target audience: School and local authority-based practitioners with an interest in understanding more about how to develop equity in education.
At the heart of Curriculum for Wales is a commitment to developing all learners to develop towards the four purposes. This can only be achieved if there is an understanding of, and commitment to, equity in education and the importance of learner wellbeing. Equity in education means providing every learner with the resources, support and learning experiences that meet their needs enabling them to succeed. Individual and social circumstances should not be a barrier to fulfilling educational potential.
These termly networks have been arranged to provide schools with an opportunity to share effective practice, talk to colleagues and practitioners from across the region and learn more about the programmes and activities happening across schools and settings to develop equity and wellbeing within our education system.
Each network will focus on a different aspect of equity in education and will provide an opportunity to hear from external specialist organisations and regional effective practice.
Attendees will engage with and have a better understanding of Equity in Education in order to develop their own in school provision.
Attendees will develop pedagogical knowledge in order to support effective design and implementation of equitable and inclusive provision.
Attendees will have an opportunity to shape future development and agenda of networks and share own practice.

Breaking down barriers to learning and creating a positive education experience for everyone and two objectives within ‘Our national mission: High standards and aspirations for all’.
Learners who are find it difficult to manage their emotions face significant barriers during the school day. Emotion Coaching is an evidence based approach that builds on the work of American Psychologist John Gottman.
Emotion Coaching uses moments of heightened emotion and resulting behaviour to guide and teach the child and young person about more effective responses. Through empathetic engagement, the child’s emotional state is verbally acknowledged and validated, promoting a sense of security and feeling ‘felt’. This activates changes in the child’s neurological system and allows the child to calm down both physiologically and psychologically.
Emotion coaching is a communication tool that adults can use as teachable moments to support the development of emotional regulation.

Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one “right” way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits.
One in seven learners are estimated to be neurodiverse so an understanding of neurodiversity is crucial for an inclusive and equitable classroom.
Attendees will develop a deeper understanding of neurodiversity and the impact that it can have on learners.
Attendees will feel empowered to look at their own behaviour with young people and make changes based on the programme learning and new understanding.

Social and emotional literacy provides the foundations of being ready and able to learn and develop both individually and with others. The global pandemic had a significant impact on the social and emotional development of our youngest learners.
Think Equal have designed a 30-week programme, teaching the 25 social and emotional learning skills to young minds. The programme is rooted in mental health and social justice.
The programme builds a strong foundation for individual and societal progress, making communities safer, healthier, stronger, more prosperous, equal, and just.
Utilising proven pedagogical theories and principles (including Theory of Change, Social Development Theory, Theory of Multiple Intelligences, and the Montessori Principles) the power of narrative and storytelling is used to: share personal, social, and emotional experiential learning; develop the skills to see things from the perspective of others; describe the basic conflicts of human life and help to devise ways to resolve them in a safe environment; inspire curiosity and exploration and develop compassion and empathy.
Participants will be provided with all the resources required to complete the 30 week programme with their learners.
Participants will be part of a growing number of primary schools in the region using the Think Equal approach with their youngest learners.
