Post-16 Leadership Development Programme
Target audience: The post–16 Leadership Development Programme is available to teachers who are established in post, newly appointed to post or aspiring to leadership in post–16 education.
The programme will support professionals to develop the knowledge, skills and opportunity to progress to the next stage of professional learning in line with the Professional Learning Model. The programme has been designed by education consortia in consultation with current post-16 leaders. The content of the programme identifies key operational and strategic skills that post-16 leaders need to work effectively both on a local and national basis. The programme promotes highly effective leadership through self-evaluation and reflection. It will establish networks at a range of levels for post-16 leaders to share experience and ideas.
Understand the strategic and operational elements of post- 16 leadership
Refine strategies to undertake effective self- evaluation and planning
Plan effective interventions and wellbeing for learners
Understand how to provide high quality and inclusive advice and guidance
Event details:
The programme is a common entitlement for post-16 Leaders and delivered through a mix of both face to face and online over four sessions. Participants have the option to pursue formal ILM Level 5 accreditation on completion of the programme. Participants are able to engage with the programme bilingually through group discussions and resources. Each participant has the opportunity to access individual coaching support and peer-to-peer support throughout the programme.
The programme consists of:
Four structured sessions (Days 1 & 4 are face to face)
Presentations
Discussions and Networking
Sharing good practice
Opportunities to reflect on current practice and plan for improvement.
Session 1: Understanding the strategic and operational role of post-16 leadership.
Session 2: Effective self-evaluation and planning for improvement in post-16 settings.
Session 3: Planning intervention and well-being for learners.
Session 4: Provide high quality and inclusive advice and guidance to support learner transition, aspirations and chosen destinations.

Post-16 Network
Target audience: Heads of 6th form, Assistant Heads of 6th form, Heads of Year, Sixth form Tutors, Learning Coaches.
Termly network meetings for post-16 leaders offer a range of benefits, including collaboration, professional development, policy awareness, community building, innovation promotion, and advocacy opportunities. By actively participating in these meetings, leaders can enhance their leadership skills, stay abreast of policy changes, and contribute to the improvement and advancement of post-16 education as a whole. These meetings serve as a platform for leaders in the post-16 education sector to come together and collaborate, share best practices, and discuss common challenges.
Network meetings often include workshops, presentations, and guest speakers who share expertise on various topics relevant to post-16 education. These professional development opportunities enable leaders to expand their knowledge, gain insights into emerging trends and research, and enhance their leadership skills.
All delegates will enhance their understanding of their roles as leaders in the post-16 sector, ensuring the advancement and progress of their areas of responsibility.
All delegates will broaden their knowledge regarding curriculum and qualification reforms that are specific to post-16 education.
All delegates will engage in discussions and gain exposure to current and impactful leadership practices, as well as teaching and learning strategies relevant to the post-16 sector.
All delegates will have the opportunity to exchange and learn from examples of effective practices in post-16 leadership, teaching and learning, or curriculum/qualification reform.
