Teach for Purpose
Target audience: All primary and secondary teachers.
At the centre of a successful curriculum is excellent teaching and learning.
The ‘Teach for Purpose’ programme has been designed with input from strong practitioners and leaders across the region to give teachers a high level understanding of what effective teaching can achieve. As well as practical strategies and resources that enable teachers to become consistently and sustainably excellent. The programme aims to address common shortcomings in teaching that prohibit our learners from making rapid progress. As a result ‘Teach for Purpose’ is structured into five sessions:
Challenge and Pace for all
Questioning
Retrieval Practice
Independent and Collaborative Learning
Effective Feedback
The sessions are designed to support the Professional Teaching and Leadership Standards and take into consideration the Welsh Government’s National Approach to Professional Learning. The sessions align to the professional learning design model including: 1 Collaboration; 2 Reflective Practice and 3. Use of Data and Research Evidence to inform the session.
Participants will engage with and have a better understanding of high quality approaches to specific elements of pedagogy in the classroom.
Participants will have a range of high quality and practical strategies / resources to support developments in the quality of the teaching and learning.
Participants will collaborate widely – working in groups with other practitioners across the region as a key feature of each session.
Participants will have opportunities to reflect together on their current practice
Participants will build their skills in making use of research and data to inform their classroom approaches to pedagogy.
Participants will have a stronger understanding of how to respond effectively to the needs of their learners in order to develop a responsive and adaptive classroom.
Participants will help to inform future regional support around teaching and learning by providing reflective feedback.
Event details:
Taking part in the 'Teach for Purpose' programme will give you the funded opportunity of £300 per session to share the messages from Teach for Purpose into your schools and classrooms. You will need to complete a brief Summary Report of how you have used this funding to support the development of pedagogy, research and enquiry within your schools and settings. This work will enable us to share the good practice from your schools across the region, and support us in evaluating the impact of this professional learning opportunity.
Examples of where schools have used the messages from Teach for Purpose to secure improvements will be used to inform Teach for Purpose 2024-25.
