Target audience: Secondary Numeracy Leads
The mandatory cross-curricular skill of numeracy is essential for learners to be able to access the breadth of a school’s curriculum and the wealth of opportunities it offers, equipping them with the lifelong skills to realise the four purposes.
Numeracy plays a critical part in our everyday lives, and in the economic health of the nation. It is imperative, therefore, that Mathematics and Numeracy experiences are as engaging, exciting and accessible as possible for learners, and that these experiences are geared towards ensuring that learners develop mathematical resilience.
Schools and settings must develop a curriculum which enables learners to develop competence and capability in numeracy, together with literacy and digital competence, where there are opportunities, to extend and apply them across all Areas. Developing these skills is therefore a consideration for all practitioners.
This professional learning opportunity will provide Secondary Numeracy leads with strategies and ideas to develop Numeracy across the curriculum. Practitioners will collaborate with others, sharing good practice to ensure learners receive relevant and appropriate opportunities in numeracy rich subjects. Both days will support numeracy leads to develop and ensure progression in mandatory cross-curricular numeracy skills through the proficiencies whilst developing the four purposes.
Secondary Numeracy leads will be provided with opportunities to network with other practitioners, share good practice, and discuss how they are developing numeracy across the curriculum in their schools.
Practitioners will receive external training from a guest speaker (to be confirmed) and will develop ways to enhance the numeracy learning experiences which will support their curriculum design process. Discussion around intervention will also enable practitioners to deliver effective numeracy intervention within their settings. Practitioners will have the opportunity to discuss how they monitor, assess and report on skill progression within their settings.
