Menu Changes

Raffle

Our Christmas Chocolate Raffle raised £787.24! A very big thank you to all those who bought tickets & to Mr Young who arranged the purchase of the chocolates & made a large donation himself.  

Christmas Disco

A big thank you to the Friends of Holy Name School who organised and ran two fantastic Christmas Disco's this week. The Friends have organised and supported several events this year, if any parents/carers would like to join there will be a meeting in the new year to plan  future events - everyone is welcome.

Return to School

We will return to school on Monday 8th January, we look forward to welcoming everyone back after the Christmas Holiday.

Under 5's sessions

Next term Mrs Beavis will be starting Under 5's sessions on Friday mornings. All parents/carers, babies and toddlers are welcome to join us. Sessions will start at 9:30 in the hall, feel free to drop in between 9:30-11:00. There will be tea, biscuits, craft, stories, rhymes and lots of fun. Please share the poster  with anyone you think might be interested.

WOW – the walk to school challenge 

This starts in January. This is an exciting behaviour-change initiative to encourage more children and their families to walk to school. Please see letter attached here for further details.

Food Bank

Many thanks for all your donations for the Pembrokeshire Food Bank, we will take our last collection up to Bethel Chapel on Thursday 21st December for their Christmas collection. Any donations, no matter how small, of dried food, tins, cereals and toiletries will be greatly received. Diolch yn fawr.

Christmas Disco.

The Friends of the School are organising a disco on Thursday 21st Dec. Reception, Yr 1 and Yr 2 pupils disco will start at 5pm, end at 5:45. The disco for Yr3,4, 5 and 6 will start at 6pm, end at 6:45. The disco costs £3, this includes entry, bag of sweets, drink, festival glitter, nail varnish, Christmas tattoo, face paint.  The children will not need to bring any other money with them. No mobile phones at the disco, if your child has a phone with them they will need to give it to Mrs Davies or Mrs Beavis for safekeeping.  

Christmas Dinner

Reminder Christmas Dinner will be on Thursday 21st Dec

Change to menu

On Wednesday 20th Dec there is a change to the dinner menu, there will Christmas Party food - Sausage and chips, Vegetarian sausage and chips.

Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday 22nd Dec - the last day of term - pupils can wear Christmas jumpers/own clothes.

End of Term Mass

Our final Mass of the term will be at 10am in the Church on Thursday 21st Dec, everyone is welcome to join us.

Christmas Plays info 

We are looking forward to welcoming you to watch our plays next week. The doors will open 20 minutes before the plays start - we are unable to reserve seats.  

For the evening performance doors will open at 5.40pm for pupils and audience to arrive - please do not drive onto the playground - the gates at the front and rear of the school will be open for pedestrian access - could pupils please wear clothes that are easy for them to change. 


Seatbelt safety

Christmas Film.

On Wednesday 20th Dec we will be taking the whole school to see the film Wish as part our Christmas celebrations. We like this to be a surprise for the children so would appreciate your support in keeping the surprise element but wanted to let all parents know in case you are making plans to take the children to see the film yourselves.


Christmas Gifts

As Christmas approaches we are always overwhelmed by your kindness in sending in gifts for staff - this year however, we are asking that gifts are not sent in. If you wish to send something in staff would be delighted if families could send in a small donation to the food bank instead.

 

Help

If anyone has any spare Christmas cards that Class Two could use to practise scissor skills we would appreciate them.  Please can you collect the card board tubes from Kitchen rolls too.

Aplogies but there will be no JRSO club on Monday as there will be Class 2 parents evening.   There will be no Criw Cymraeg or Mini Criw Cymraeg on Monday. There will be no coding club on Wednesday.

Eco Club

If you have any spare kitchen roll cardboard tubes please could you donate them to Eco Club by Thursday please. Sorry we cannot accept toilet roll tubes.

Class 4 Trip reminder 

Class 4 are going on a trip on Tuesday 21st November '23 

Reminder - pupils will be going out walking and will need wet weather gear.  

 

First Experience - Parents of Pupil's in Class 4  

Class 4 will be taking part in the Cluster Celebration Performance at Ysgol Bro Gwaun on Monday 11th December. Please could you complete the form to indicate if you will be attending the performance so I can pass on the approximate number of parents/guardians hoping to attend. You will need to arrive at Ysgol Bro Gwaun by 1:15pm for a 1:30pm prompt start.

Clubs return this week. Mini Criw Cymraeg will join with Club Cymraeg Rhieni on Thursday this week.

First Holy Communion preparations will begin this week on Wednesday 15th November. The enrolment our first holy Communion candidates will take place during our school mass this week on Thursday 16th November.


Odd Socks Day.

On Monday 13th November we will taking part in Odd Socks Day to mark the start of anti-bullying week. Children can wear odd socks to join together to show that it's okay to be different and to stand up against bullying and discrimination. 


Children In Need.

On Friday 17th November everyone can wear their own clothes to school for a donation when we take part in Children In Need day. Spotty clothes can be worn but please don't feel that you have to buy anything special. Please use our JustGiving link here to donate.


Bereavement Services

Work is currently underway to improve and develop the bereavement services that children in Wales can access.

Please see our Google Survey to share with the children at your school who you think might like their voices heard. The voice of any child, bereaved or not, is valid in this exercise. 

Feedback from this survey will make a difference and help to inform the Welsh Government Children’s Bereavement Pathway which is currently being written with the aim of improving access to bereavement support in Wales and shaping current and future services available to children. It is important that we have the voices of children in Wales to do this.

Flu Vaccination 

School Nurses are visiting school next week to vaccinate all those pupils that have given consent. If for any reason you do not now want your child to receive the vaccine please contact Mrs Dowling and let her know prior to the start of the day.  


Headlice

Head lice are very common in young children and their families. They do not have anything to do with dirty hair and are picked up by head-to-head contact. Please check your child's hair regularly and treat head lice as soon as you spot them.

There will be no clubs after school week beginning Nov 6th either due to Parents Evenings and INSET. Clubs will begin again on Monday 13th Nov and will run for three weeks. The final week of clubs for this term will be week beginning 27th Nov. We will hold our first Communion preparation session on Wednesday 15th November.

Friends of Holy Name School

Autumn Fayre

Thank you so much to everyone who supported our Autumn Fayre this week. We raised £853 which is a fantastic amount and will be used to help develop our outdoor learning opportunities. Multi Sport Club.

Sport Pembrokeshire have an exciting opportunity for pupils in years 5 and 6 in the Fishguard Cluster! A free multi-sport club will be starting after half term in Ysgol Glannau Gwaun. This will be open to any year 5 and 6 pupils.

It’s a brilliant opportunity for children to participate in a wide range of sport, to try new activities and to develop their skills.

Bags of Books 

There will a selection of books that have been kindly donated to school attached to the Astro Turf fence on Wednesday 25th October during the morning. These are available to anyone who would like to come and choose one throughout the day.

Harvest Celebration 

Our Harvest Celebration will be in the Church on Tuesday 24th October at 2pm. All are welcome to join us.   

Harvest donations 

We are continuing our support for Pembrokeshire Food Bank which is part of the Trussell Trust. All items are distributed within Pembrokeshire and our donations have helped many people. If you would like to donate as part of our Harvest celebration week dried food, tins, cereals and all toiletries will be gratefully received.   

Harvest Fayre 

Our Harvest Fayre will be in the Hall on Wednesday 25th October, 3:15pm start. There will be delicious cakes, raffle, lucky dip, glitter tattoos and enterprise stalls selling items made by the children from all classes. Everyone is welcome to join us for a fun filled celebration.  

Donations of cakes for the cake stall can be sent into school on Wednesday morning.

Parents Evenings

Parents Evenings will take place on November 6th and November 7th - bookings can be made by following this link . Please note you need to use the drop down menu to select the correct Class - if you do not select a class you will be assigned to any member of staff.  

Due to staff absence meetings for parents of Class 2 will be scheduled for WB November 20th - we will share a booking link after half term.


Catholic Social Teaching

Marvellous Me
Unfortunately notifications on Marvellous Me are not working. We have asked their IT department to fix this. In the meantime please could we ask that you check the app regularly to see if we have sent any messages. You can also check our Facebook Page for reminders. 

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club will begin on Monday - if you completed the form shared last week your child/ren have places reserved. There is a cost of £1 per day - pupils can be dropped off at the hall door between 8am and 8.15am. There will be a choice of cereal or toast for breakfast.
If you have not requested a place in Breakfast Club but need one at any future date please speak to Mrs Dowling who will see if there are any spaces available. Attendance at Breakfast Club is dependent upon acceptable behaviour.
Thank you to all the staff who have worked hard to support us in starting a Breakfast Club. 

First Holy Communion

Preparations will be held after school on Wednesdays, starting after half term. The first session will be on Wednesday 8th November. Autumn Fayre

We are delighted to be holding an Autumn Fayre this year - information on the poster here

The Friends are kindly organising more stalls, so please speak to them if you can offer assistance.

We are also looking for any volunteers to help with face painting on the night too. Please let Mrs Beavis or Mrs Squelch know if you can help with this.  

Each class will be selling their own Autumn crafts for a small fee as part of an Enterprise project. Your child's item will be clearly labelled.  


First Music Experience    


As part of the First Experience programme that Class 4 are involved in, there will be a Celebration Performance which will be held at Ysgol Bro Gwaun on Monday December 11th. 

Pupils will be going down to Ysgol Bro Gwaun by 10.00 am to rehearse with the other schools involved and the performance will begin at 1.30pm and end at 2.15pm. Parents/carers are invited to attend the afternoon performance.    

Pupils will need a packed lunch on this day. Forms to order lunches will be sent home closer to the date. 

Last year's Celebration Performance at Ysgol Bro Gwaun was a huge success and certainly a highlight of the First Experience for the children involved.

 There will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child's class teacher on November 6th and 7th - links to book appointments will be shared closer to the date  


JRSO Club

Criw Cyw 


 Children in Reception and Yr 1 last year were filmed for Criw Cyw during the summer term, we have just heard that they will feature in the episode on Saturday 21st October.

All clubs will run after school and all will end at 4pm. 


Support for low income families.


Families on low incomes will not be affected by the introduction of universal free school meals. You will still be able to receive free school meals and other essentials, such as help with uniform, sports kit and stationery (PDG Access Grant). This grant not only entitles you to funding to support your child but also enables the school to access funding to further support them while they are in our school.


If your child is starting school or your circumstances have changed and you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit, you must still apply for Free School Meals (eFSM) to access other funding.


Qualifying benefits - Income Support, Income based Jobseekers Allowance ( Contribution based Jobseekers allowance does not qualify), Guarantee element of State Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit only, with an annual household income under £16,190, Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Income related Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit.



Outdoor Clothes

Classes 1, 2 and 3. If you have not done so, please could you return your child's waterproof clothing and shoes.  Please ensure these are clearly labelled. 


Nut Free School Policy

Congratulations!


Congratulations to Millie G Class 5, she entered the Children's Festival short story competition (advertised through Google Classroom) and won her age category. She received her prize from the Children's Laureate for Wales, Connor Allen.   


PE 


PE sessions will start next week. Pupils wear PE kit to school . PE times are as follow -

 PE Kit is either a school PE t-shirt or a plain red t-shirt, black shorts or joggers. Black leggings can be worn for PE but should only be worn on PE days, they are not part of our normal uniform. Nike Pro style shorts are not part of our school PE kit.

Shorts worn on non PE days should be grey, tailored style not sports shorts.

Long hair needs to be tied back by all pupils.
