In class, we were given different tools to help us create a project, so I decided to make a movie about things I like. I thought it would be a fun way to show everyone a little more about who I am. By using the tools, I was able to put together something that expresses my personality and interests. It felt good to share those parts of myself with others, and I hoped it would help them understand me better.
While making my movie, I also learned how to make sure the images I used weren’t copyrighted. I found out that it’s important to only use pictures that I have permission to share or ones that are free to use. This was a really useful skill because it made sure I wasn’t accidentally using someone else’s work without asking. I even learned about websites where you can find images that are free to use for school projects and other things.
The 7 standards of our class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects to the standard of Empowered Learner because I recognized a problem and decided to solve it instead of just leaving it. In this case, the problem was how to share my interests and personality in a creative way. Instead of just talking about it, I used the tools we were given to make a movie. This helped me take control of my learning and create something meaningful.
One challenge I faced during this project was trying to transfer my movie from one device to another. I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong, so I asked my friend Cristian for help. He explained that I needed to download the movie to Google Drive and then put it in my website folder. Once I did that, it worked! I was really relieved to figure it out, and it taught me the importance of asking for help when I’m stuck.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would definitely add more voiceovers. The reason I’d make this change is because I think there are a few parts in the movie that might not be super clear. By adding more voiceovers, I could explain things better and make sure everyone understands what I’m trying to say. I think it would make the movie even more effective and help get my point across more clearly.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program offers a wide range of subjects, including Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia program at Hastings High School because I created a movie using digital tools, which is a big part of what we learn in that program. By making the movie, I was able to use skills related to digital media, which ties directly to what students in Digital Multimedia focus on.
My project also connects to careers in digital journalism because it involved a lot of audio and video editing. In digital journalism, professionals often create videos, podcasts, or other media by editing audio and video to tell a story. Since I had to edit my movie and make sure everything flowed smoothly, I used skills that are similar to what someone in digital journalism would use in their work. This project gave me a glimpse of what it would be like to work in that field.
