Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
My computer and the 3D printer.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to create a 3D fidget.
What unique qualities will your project have?
Some unique qualities my project will have is it will be a fidget that I create.
Today I was helping a fellow classmate and I was figuring out what I'm going to do for my project.
Today I was getting ready to go to Lansing, MI to show off our projects.
Today I created the design for my fidget.
Today we went to Lansing, MI to show our projects at a convention.
Today I finished the spinny ring design.
Today I created the design for my other fidget.
Today the 3D printer started printing my idea.
Using the 3D printer and Tinkercad, I created peg fidget because I really like them and I know I could design it. I used the design idea from then famous peg fidget toy to alter and create my design. I completed my fidget in about 3-4 days because the other days I was trying to figure out what I was going to do.
During this process, I learned how to create this type of fidget. I also learned how to use Tinkercad easily. I really enjoyed using Tinkercad because you can make whatever you want using almost every shape and every size.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Digital Citizen because I acted safely on Tinkercad and used the website correctly. I was also responsible with my computer and accessing Tinkercad and I followed the online rules to create my 3D fidget.
A challenge I overcame on this project was creating the right space in between the pegs and the surrounding hole. I was able to do it by being very careful on Tinkercad and altering my dimensions to make sure the fidget would work. I successfully finished my fidget and it worked.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the amount of space in between the other ring fidget that I made but didn't work. The reason why I would change it is because I really wanted both of the fidgets I made to work. Next time I'm going to make sure there is enough space all around the ring for it to work.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. Engineering Design is when you create an idea for a project and to make it and finish it.
My project connects to careers in Mechanical Engineer because I created a project that I think a lot of people would like. I could put it on the marketplace but I would have to get permission from the original designers for the idea. I would definitely do a 3D project again because it is really fun to create your idea and watch it become real.
