Grow a Plant

Clean seeds from any fruit you eat (apple, lemon, peach, cherry, etc.), or use dried beans. Place the seeds (or beans) inside of a clear plastic bag. Dampen a paper towel and fold it into the bag. Place the seeds along one side of the bag, pressing them against the paper towel. Hang in the window using tape.

Have your child record their observations of the seed every week, for the next 4 weeks. With your help, your child may draw and write what they see.

In today’s story, Olivia learns that talking to plants can make them grow faster. Have your child make up a story using items around the house as characters (figurines, crayons, socks, etc.). Help your child tell their story by taking on the part of one of the characters. Tell the story to your child’s plant or to your family.
