At an early age, children begin to understand their place in their family. As children grow, their understanding of their place expands to wider systems: their place in the classroom, community and world. At preschool, children are taught to appreciate and embrace their unique characteristics as well as demonstrate an awareness of the cultures that exist within their classroom and community. By becoming aware and knowledgable of self and others, children become contributing members of society.
