Te Kaupeka Tuarua- Term Two
Begin writing a recount about your trip to the marae.
Talk about all of the important parts of the pōwhiri process, in the order that it happens.
An introduction, 3-4 main points and a conclusion.
Watch at least 5 of these short videos. Please take notes of the kupu (words) in your pukapuka (book). Start with the older videos as they have easier content.
Choose five words in te reo that you will use all week instead of the english word - no matter where you are or who you are talking to.
He kupu - words, you have learnt many of these, but some will be new. Make a copy of this slideshow, name it and save it to your Ngā Here Kahikatea folder. Then complete the mahi in the slide show. It needs to be completed by Friday, May 6.
Spend as much time as possible on Te Kura. This is a good chance for you to get ahead so that we can do more fun learning when I get back to kura.

Work with a friend and translate this. Create your own message in te reo Māori and send it to me.

Te wiki tuatoru (week three)
Finish your visual mihi.
Choose ten verbs (doing words) and write them in your pukapuka. Next, use Te Aka Māori Dictionary to find the kupu Māori for your verbs.
Make five question and answers up using the sentence structure:
Kei te aha koe? Kei te (verb) ahau. Work together to practice asking and answering.
Complete module one on Te Kura. Remember to highlight your module one square on the hand in your mahi sheet. If you are not doing te kura, write a sentence in English (any sentence that you say often), and see if you can translate each word. When you have done that, see if you can recognise which words need to shift in order. Check in with whaea.
Write the following in your pukapuka and have a go at working out what it says: I tērā pō, i haere ahau ki te hokomaha, no te mea, i tino hiakai āku tama. I hoko ahau i ngā hua rākau me ētahi parāoa. Where did I go? What did I get?

LI: to introduce ourselves in te reo Māori
SC: create a personalised mihi for introducing ourselves
Learning: Greetings, how to speak about whānau members, how to introduce ourselves.
Context: We use this learning in our mihi at the beginning of classes and when we go to hui.
Create: We are going to put together our individual mihi and then create a visual version of it - a visual mihi.
Share: The visual will be on our wall in the whare and we will share it orally during mihi time.

Link to last years site: You will need to look at all of the different pages to refresh all of last years learning.
Use the above link to last years site and your pukapuka te reo Māori from last year to refresh your brain on the learning from last year. It is really important that you do this properly so we can build on that foundation rather than start all over again.
Create a presentation for me showing me all the words and sentences that you have learnt - This will give me a great idea of where each of you need to start this year. If you were not in this class last year, let me know all the words, sayings and sentences that you know (and can remember), it will be worth looking through last year's site too.
