15976 Identify and explain te taiao occurrences in a local context using pūrākau and waiata  pūrākau and waiata

• Get to know the Poutini and Waitaiki pūrākau well.

• Choose a waiata that tells us about a natural occurance in the environment, you could use: He Manu Titi

• Answer the following questions in detail:

1. What pūrākau are you choosing - brief summary.

2. What are the environmental things that happen in your chosen pūrākau?

3. How does the Pūrākau explain the occurrences?

4. What waiata are you choosing - brief summary.

5. What are the environmental things that happen in your chosen waiata?

6. How does the waiata  explain the occurrences?

7. Explain exactly what the pūrākau and the  waiata is telling a story of - what is the information intended to be passed down through generations?  You need two different things here - pounamu from the pūrākau and ....... from your waiata.

8. What is the specific main subject that this pūrākau is about? 

9. Why is this information so important for Māori to pass down through the generations? 

10. What would happen if this information wasn't passed on?

Once you have all the answers, you can choose a creative way to share your information with the class: Visual presentation, video, haka, waiata, tauparapara, presentation,  voice recording, written work - your choice!
