Course Description
Team Sports will provide students the opportunity to participate in activities to develop basic skills and strategies that will assist them to gain a better understanding of the concepts that are essential to create successful teams. The units students will partake in include flag football, ultimate frisbee, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, and water polo. Successful team traits the students will work on include: problem solving, interpersonal relationships, positive relationship building, teamwork, sportsmanship, and good citizenship.
Essential Learning Goals
1. Standard 5: 50%
The student will recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
2. Standard 4: 30%
The student will exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
3. Standard 2: 20%
The student will apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement performance.
Major Assessment Evidence and Success Criterion
Demonstration of student engagement/participation in daily class activities.
Demonstration of citizenship/sportsmanship on a daily basis through participation in the class activities.
Self-reflection on student gains as an individual, as a partnership, or team, as it relates to skill progression and development of strategic play in different activities.
Participation in tournament competition to demonstrate development of skills and strategic play.
Assessments that demonstrate understanding of rules, vocabulary, strategies, positioning, and general knowledge of specific activities to assist in developing the students’ understanding and participation of sports and activities.
Key Course Learning Experiences
At the end of each semester, students who take our Team Sports class will have worked with a variety of classmates in different sports. Students will cultivate traits such as: sportsmanship, selflessness, camaraderie in what we believe are important life skills.
