Course Description
Body Sculpting through Yoga and Pilates: Students who take Body Sculpting will have the opportunity to build on what they have already learned in Body Toning. Body Sculpting will focus on improving your balance, strength and flexibility while enhancing coordination and mental focus. This class will be centered on different disciplines of Yoga and various formats of Pilates. This course is a great way to refine your Yoga and Pilates skills so you can continue a lifetime disposition for personal wellness.
Essential Learning Goals
1. Standard 3: 50%
The student will demonstrate the knowledge and skills to achieve a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness. (cont’d)
2. Standard 4: 30%
The student will exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
3. Standard 2: 20%
The student will apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement performance.
Major Assessment Evidence and Success Criterion
1.Demonstration of student engagement/participation in daily class activities.
2 Demonstration of citizenship on a daily basis through participation in class activities.
3. Students will set a nutritional goal and fitness goals at the beginning of the semester that will help guide them through their fitness journey.
4. Students will engage in reflective writing throughout the semester pertaining to their goals that the student sets at the beginning of the semester.
5. Students will provide self feedback, peer to peer feedback and teacher feedback with the use of screencastify.
6. Students will create and present their own yoga flow at the end of the semester.
7. Students will learn that lifelong wellness is achieved and sustained by practicing habits that include regular exercise and proper nutrition.
8. This course will help students develop an understanding of the different disciplines of Yoga.
Students will be introduced to different formats of Pilates.
9. Students will learn about their Basal Metabolic Rate and how it applies to nutrition and exercise.
Key Course Learning Experiences
Students that elect to take Body Sculpting will leave the class feeling very confident with their Yoga and Pilates movements. The students will understand the relationship between relaxation and movement. They will have a better understanding of their bodies alignment. Students will feel more energized and balanced after taking this course. Several of my students have ended up practicing Yoga or Pilates outside of this course. Some have attended Yoga studios and felt they had the knowledge they needed in order to feel comfortable in that setting.
