Course Description
Sophomore Physical Education will provide students the opportunity to continue to develop basic skills and strategies to assist them throughout a lifetime of participation in a variety of activities. These units include fitness, soccer, softball, swim, tennis, and volleyball. Not only will the students learn skills specific to the activity of each unit. They will also learn skills related to problem solving, team work, sportsmanship, and good citizenship.
Essential Learning Goals
Standard 1: 50%
The student will demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Standard 4: 30%
The student will exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
Standard 2: 20%
The student will apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement performance.
Major Assessment Evidence and Success Criteria
Swim skill evaluation based on Red Cross swim criteria.
Demonstration of basic knowledge of personal fitness concepts including muscle groups, exercise, and technique.
Assessments that demonstrate understanding of rules, vocabulary, strategies, positioning, and general knowledge of specific activities to assist in developing the students’ understanding of sports and activities.
Demonstration of student engagement/participation in daily class activities.
Demonstration of citizenship on a daily basis through participation in class activities.
Key Course Learning Experiences
Sophomores will continue to explore a variety of different athletic opportunities. We will continue to expand into activities geared to a lifetime of fitness based activities. Tennis is being introduced to all students as well as Pickleball which is one of the fastest growing sports in the US. Both of these sports can be played for a lifetime.
